My dog is sneezing blood after eye removal. Is this normal for my pet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 2 months old | 8 lbs

He had an eye removed yesterday and he sometimes sneezes but he sneezes blood, I talked to the vet and told me it was normal. But as a worried “mom” I would like to know other vets opinions

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I agree with your veterinarian. Sometimes bleeding can be noticed from the nostril in the same side as the removed eye. The reason is that there is some connection in between both structures through the nasolacrimal duct. This should improve within days of surgery. Good luck and have a great day!
