Why is my 1-year-old dog suddenly snappy with other dogs after Parvo?

I have never heard this being the case and I have never read any studies that have revealed this. I would be more worried that all the attention they both received during their illness since treating parvo can be labor intensive and they end up spending a lot of time with humans during that time, could have caused this behavior. Sorry I wish I had a better answer for you. She is quite the beauty though.

There are a number of possibilities but it sounds like her brain and possibly her vision become affected, possibly from epileptic seizures or from a brain injury or viral damage. I recommend you video these episodes and show them to your vet, they may want to start her on seizure medication; blood work and mri imaging may also be recommended to investigate medical and neurological causes

Blindness in one eye would be very unlikely as a direct result of parvo (indeed if the developing eye was affected then both eyes would be expected to be attacked by the virus). There are many possible causes of blindness and severe infection or inflammation of any sort can occasionally cause inflammation and damage to the back of the eye. There are many other possible causes and I would recommend assessment by an ophthalmologist to determine the underlying cause and if any preventive measures should be taken to preserve sight in the other eye

I'm sorry your pups have been so ill. Being sick with Parvo, being isolated and going through the treatment is very stressful on dogs. They come home from the vet smelling funny and they may still not be feeling perfectly yet. First step is to keep them apart but try to have a baby gate between them so they can see and smell each other but not reach each other. Try to give them both equal attention and love. Reintroduce slowly, maybe in a more neutral space, like the back yard. Try a product like Adaptil, which is a dog pheromone that reduces stress. You can get it in a collar or a spray (the spray you would put on a bandanna then tie around the dog's neck). This can really help to calm. Just try to be relaxed with them and give them time-- most dogs will come around once they settle back in.

A sudden change in behavior could be due to a systemic infection / disease, neurological condition or anxiety that has worsened from a stressful experience. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Marshall so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would have his blood tested including his thyroid level to see if there is an explanation for this behavior. If everything comes back normal, then I would recommend having Marshall go through a behavioral class and consider anti-anxiety medications if no improvement. Any abrupt change in behavior is a good reason to get him checked by your vet. He may be just starting an illness and the only symptom so far is a change in demeanor. Sometimes this is a pet's only way they can tell us something is wrong. Your vet will do an exam and possibly further diagnostics if indicated, and based on these results, will be better able to tell you what is wrong and how best to treat it.

Before assuming this is a behavior issue, I would want to rule out a possible medical issue first. When I hear about sudden changes resulting in aggressiveness, the possibility of pain or discomfort in one of the dogs could be the root of the problem. When a dog is not feeling well, it is only natural for it to react in a negative way if one of its buddies is trying to get it to act normally. A thorough physical exam should be performed by a veterinarian in order to rule out any sort of orthopedic or neurologic pain. Thyroid conditions can also be responsible for behavior changes as well. If it turns out that no medical issue can be be identified, you will have to start considering what may have started this sudden change of heart by Mill. You will have to think back to when it started, when the problem occurs most, where it occurs most, who is around when it is occurring, who ISN'T around when it is occurring, so on and so forth. These types of issues can be long and complicated to resolve, but usually as soon as the issue is identified the road forward becomes much easier.
