Why is my dog blind in one eye after recovering from the parvo virus?

This is s prolapse of the third eye lid. This may not have anything to do with your dog's parvo infection . This could be a weakness of the connective tissue of the gland of the third eye lid which would be the cause of cherry eye. However at this time I would concentrate on your dog recuperating from his parvo infection. When he is completely healthy again you can then concentrate on having his eye examined, if the third eye lid is still prolapsed.

There are a number of possibilities but it sounds like her brain and possibly her vision become affected, possibly from epileptic seizures or from a brain injury or viral damage. I recommend you video these episodes and show them to your vet, they may want to start her on seizure medication; blood work and mri imaging may also be recommended to investigate medical and neurological causes

Hi there, The dose of metonidazole your dog is on is well within range and eye changes isn't a listed side effect. I would suspect whatever is going on with Katryn's eye is due to something else as you mentioned. I know she's been at the vet a lot but I would recommend taking her back in for an eye exam today. This is a medical emergency, and Pirata needs to see a vet right away. He could have suffered a seizure that has left him completely blind, he could have progressive retinal atrophy, or he could have diabetes causing the blindness. He needs to see a vet now in order to have the best chance of having his sight restored. Please bring him into a vet now.

We don't normally see neurological or behavioral effects after parvo virus infection. We can, however, see behavioral changes as pets reach sexual maturity, particularly if they are not neutered. I would recommend having your vet examine him to be sure he isn't having any unidentified pain or illness making him crabby and to discuss neutering him and behavior modification that may help his situation.

It is hard to say what the cause it of the total blindness is without examining Ann first and doing an eye exam on her. Ann may have genetic or congenital disorder of the eye(s) that is causing the blindness, especially if she was blind in one eye already at a young age. If the eye was directly exposed to bleach (bleach on the eye causing a chemical burn of the eye), that could cause blindness. While fumes from bleach can be irritating to the eye, it is unlikely the fumes from the bleach would have caused blindness. I would strongly encourage that Ann see her veterinarian soon to confirm the blindness in the eyes with an ocular exam. After an eye exam and physical exam are done, causes of the blindness can be determined and diagnosed with your veterinarian. I hope this has helped and best of luck to you and Ann.
