Why is my dog having seizures and acting weird after parvo?

I would notify your vet that she had a possible seizure first. Then I would try to make sure she has a consistent source of food or sugar to keep her glucose levels steady, in case that was the cause for her seizure. If you see the event happen again then it's best to record it so that your vet can see what is happening and classify the event correctly. Continue to give her fluids and other medicaitons as instructed by your veterinarian, unless possible seizure can be a side effect of one of her medicaitons (i.e. metronidazole). If your puppy is a small or you breed dog then she is at risk for hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), so it's important to give her nutrical, Karo syrup or honey (1 tsp) every 4-6 hrs if she hasn't gained her appetite back yet. Once she starts to eat on her own then discuss with your vet how often she should get the sugar source, if at all. I hope that your pup survives her CPV infection. Best wishes and take care.

We don't normally see neurological or behavioral effects after parvo virus infection. We can, however, see behavioral changes as pets reach sexual maturity, particularly if they are not neutered. I would recommend having your vet examine him to be sure he isn't having any unidentified pain or illness making him crabby and to discuss neutering him and behavior modification that may help his situation.

Poor guy. There are some complications that can arise from a pet having Parovivirus, and one of them is a condition called intussusception (folding in of the intestines). This is what I suspect may be going on with your pet Trap. He could also just have a really bad bacterial infection secondary to the parovirus and is in need of additional antibiotics. I typically put pets on Metronidazole and Cefazolin or Penicillin for total coverage. Talk to your vet about additional antibiotics. Also Trap could very well be shaking because he is in pain. Parvovirus causes sloughing of the intestines, which is uncomfortable for pets. Ask your vet about pain meds (i.e. Tramadol) for Trap. Trembling is a general sign and can be seen with several things that go from just being cold or nervous to being an indication of pain or discomfort. If Chuchay is otherwise fine, then it would be ok to monitor her for now. However, if at any point she appears to be in discomfort or stops eating or showing any other concerning symptoms, it may be best to have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Blindness in one eye would be very unlikely as a direct result of parvo (indeed if the developing eye was affected then both eyes would be expected to be attacked by the virus). There are many possible causes of blindness and severe infection or inflammation of any sort can occasionally cause inflammation and damage to the back of the eye. There are many other possible causes and I would recommend assessment by an ophthalmologist to determine the underlying cause and if any preventive measures should be taken to preserve sight in the other eye

I'm going to assume that your question is what should you do about this, and I'm going to assume that this is a dog. Without knowing the cause of the seizures - i.e. Epilepsy, brain tumor, menigitis, etc - it's really difficult to know what could be going on. Most epileptics will continue to have seizures occasionally, even on anti-seizure meds. But what you're describing - lack of appetite, no water consumption, and not acting normally - are all signs of a possibly serious problem. So please take your dog to see a vet as soon as possible.

It is very unusual for a three-year old dog to get infected with parvo. Did your veterinarian make this diagnosis? If she indeed had parvo she should not have diarrhea anymore and the vomiting should have stopped. Shaking is a sign of pain, usually. Please do not give her aspirin as this could cause her to bleed again, or cause ulcers. Please take her to the vet for a recheck to make sure she is indeed getting better.
