Hi there. From your picture it looks like it was a tick that was filled with blood. I would make sure the entire tick was removed from Dexter and that the mouthpiece isn’t still in his skin. I would recommend putting Neosporin on it for now as long as it’s not somewhere where he will just lick it off. I would also recommend applying a flea and tick preventative in case there are more that you can’t see. Keep a close eye on Dexter and make sure he acts normally because ticks can spread disease. I would not advise the use of neosporin or any other topical ointment as it is a bit deep and those are not indicated in internal tissue. This does appear to be a minor abrasion. You can flush the area with cool water once a day for 1-2 minutes to help prevent infection. Otherwise, this should heal fine on it's own and I would not recommend putting any ointments or antiseptics on it. I hope that helps and all is well with Bronson.

I wouldn't recommend any topical medications around the mouth. If she seems comfortable and her teeth all seem okay, it's probably okay to monitor the laceration. The mouth tends to heal quickly. If she seems painful or you start to notice yellow, green or foul smelling discharge from the wound make an appointment with your veterinarian.
