Why is my dog sleeping on the floor? Is she too warm from the weather?

Yes, this can be normal. It may be cooler on the floor for Mia. Puppies do sleep a lot as they are growing. When she is older, she may want to cuddle more. Just keep giving her lots of love and attention.

Precious may be too hot on the bed, or she may have found another place she prefers to sleep that feels more secure. If she also has changes to her appetite or energy level, or if she is coughing, sneezing, vomiting or having diarrhea, I recommend having her seen by a vet, as sometimes changes in behaviour/ sleep patterns can indicate illness.

Many dogs get too hot in the night and want to sleep on the floor. Also if he's now bigger it may be crowded and he needs to stretch out. This is not a problem usually. They are too cute! This new behavior could be just that - a behavior change. However, it is a good idea to rule out systemic illness, especially after about age 6-7 when dogs are considered "senior". If the mass on her leg has not been evaluated and aspirated by a vet yet, it would be a good time to do that. Certain types of tumors can have systemic effects or spread to other areas of the body. Hopefully, they both have a clean bill of health, and this is just a subtle behavior change. Dogs do tend to prefer to lie on the floor when it is hot in the summertime. Best of luck!

There is no way to know exactly why Mya is exhibiting this new behavior. It could be as simple as she is just too hot in the bed, or feels nervous about jumping up or down, etc. As long as she seems completely normal otherwise, and has no vomiting, diarrhea, or other medical issues going on, I would try not to worry too much about it. Dogs sweat by panting, through exchange in their paws, and through exchange in their armpits and inguinal area. It may also be she likes the vibration and noise when the air is on. As long as shes eating, drinking, playing hard, sleeping hard, and not vomiting or having diarrhea, she should be good. This may seem like an odd behavior but I bet it is just comforting to her. Binky may have just become overheated and/or uncomfortable when covered up and then, once uncovered, felt better. If these episodes continue, especially if there is no reason she would be overheated, then I would recommend taking her to the vet to be checked out so any underlying neurological issues can be ruled out.
