My pug stopped sleeping in her bed. Is she sick or just hot?

Precious may be too hot on the bed, or she may have found another place she prefers to sleep that feels more secure. If she also has changes to her appetite or energy level, or if she is coughing, sneezing, vomiting or having diarrhea, I recommend having her seen by a vet, as sometimes changes in behaviour/ sleep patterns can indicate illness.

While these are vague clinical signs, these may be due to some sort of underlying disease of either the gastrointestinal tract, liver or kidney disease, and/or a possible neoplastic or cancerous process. Since he has had a decreased appetite long enough to lose weight, I recommend having him evaluated by your veterinarian at their next available appointment. Your vet can perform bloodwork to look for any evidence of systemic illness that may be contributing to his clinical signs. His clinical signs are unlikely due to behavioral changes alone. If you walked MehMeh for a long distance in hot weather, then she may be suffering from heat stroke. This is a deadly problem in dogs, and can easily be caused in brachycephalic dogs due to their shortened muzzles. This is a medical emergency and she needs veterinary attention now. Dogs too often die from heat stroke, and the symptoms you described are indication of it. This is a medical emergency, please take her into a vet now.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Bella. This seems very odd to me and I would advise consulting your veterinarian regarding this behavior. This could be normal for her but definitely not normal for puppies. It's possible she has a respiratory problem due to her breed that is forcing this kind of posture when she sleeps. I would have one question but you can't answer it here in this forum. Is she completely normal otherwise or does she hold her head in this position at other times? If that's the case, I would wonder about a possible neck problem or even a neurologic problem. Your veterinarian can take a history and perform an examination to assess Bella. If warranted, possible tests could include x-rays or other tests. Good luck

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that Cookis is so sick! The difficulty breathing and vomiting in a young puppy is very concerning to me. You need to take Cookis back to your veterinarian as it sounds like X-rays need to be done. She may have developed pneumonia or have a blockage in her gastrointestinal tract. It is very important to have Cookis seen by a veterinarian as I'm concerned it sounds like she is very ill. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do at home to help at this point without knowing what exactly is causing these issues. I hope Cookis can get to veterinarian, get the care she needs and is feeling better soon.

There is no way to know exactly why Mya is exhibiting this new behavior. It could be as simple as she is just too hot in the bed, or feels nervous about jumping up or down, etc. As long as she seems completely normal otherwise, and has no vomiting, diarrhea, or other medical issues going on, I would try not to worry too much about it. I'd be more concerned that there is something going on at night that is startling him, rather than "end of life", however with any behavior change in a pet, scheduling a vet visit to rule out any health issues is always the first step. Since he is a senior, it could also be that he is having some hearing/vision loss, and this may be affecting him in the evenings. Strange sounds (to him) such as someone coming home from work, neighbors, wild animals, etc may be startling him as he can't recognize what it is. At night, his vision may also worsen in the dark and frighten him. Adding in nightlights or even playing a soothing music or TV show may help resolve some of his anxiety. Pheromone diffusers can also be used to help reduce stress. If he checks out healthy, looking for any triggers that happen at the same time he starts to panic can help. Are there fireworks going off for the holiday already? New people in the house? Etc. Making a space where he can go and lay down comfortably and relax away from scary sounds and objects can help reduce some of his stress.
