Can my dog sleep safely in a dog house on the balcony in winter?

I would definitely provide a heat source for them in the winter, especially if it is going to hit freezing temperatures. I worry about hypothermia if there is no heat source. I would also provide an insulated area for them. Small dog houses can be built quite easily and still be low cost. There are many templates online of how to build a dog house with insulation. Dog beds, blankets and another dog to keep warm with would help as well. If the temperature are too low outside, it is not advisable to keep them outdoors as this could result in hypothermia and even lead to death. I hope this helps! As long as the doghouse is heavily insulated and she has thick bedding inside, and the door isn't open to where the wind blows in, it should be fine. That depends on where you live. If you have an insulated dog house that stays dry and gives protection from the wind and rain then leaving her outside during the day should be fine. I wouldn’t chain her since if she’s able to move around the yard she can keep herself warm with activity. I would keep her inside during the night so she can eat, drink and sleep somewhere warm and comfortable. As she ages she may need to be inside more since she may have arthritis and other medical issues that would make her more susceptible to getting sick or being painful out in the cold. If his dog house is clean, and insulated then he should have no problem sleeping outside. Make sure you regularly clean it and wash his bedding to keep parasites at bay and do regular flea prevention.

That depends. A wooden dog house with insulation in the sides would be warmer than an igloo dog house. However it is generally accepted that the igloo house is considered warmer than a regular wooden house. You do need the appropriate size and you will want some sort of warm bedding. A roof that does not leak and walls to protect against ran is needed. You will have to change the cedar chips out regularly and make sure to add a bed or blanket to snuggle in for extra warmth. Ideally on freezing nights you should bring him in and confine him to a garage or laundry room or bathroom if able

They do get a bit of a thicker coat that provides some protection, but they are not able to withstand cold winds & rain. If Bella is provided, & will use, an insulated dog house like an Igloo, she should be fine. Place blankets, & not straw in the dog house. If you can, it would be great to add a heated pad made for dog houses, or a heat lamp to keep Bella comfortable. If the temperatures are going to be especially bitter, or there is prolonged rain or sleet, please consider bringing her indoors.
