What home remedies help my 8-year-old Maltese's sinus infections?

Instead, I recommend you have Boo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If they agree that it does look like a sinus infection they would prescribe antibiotics. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Spike! I am assuming since you have had extensive diagnostics done that you and Spike are in the care of a specialist. If there is an infection in his sinuses then it could be resistant or be fungal. Fungal infections do not respond to antibiotics and the Vet would want a diagnosis before starting anti-fungals. My concern is for a tumor due to Spike's age. I can't view your image as it is very very small and out of focus. I would ask what other imaging like an MRI can be done to confirm if there is a tumor or not. Also I would just do the scope with the hope that they will see the tumor and are able to get a good culture and biopsy. If they can't then consider surgery. I wish you and Spike the best!

You can try some Benadryl twice a day to see if this helps. See link below. You can also put her in a small bathroom with a hot steamy shower going to allow the steam to help break up the mucus. If it isn't improving, then I would have your vet take a look at her. Unfortunately, a lot of dog end up needing antibiotics to help get rid of these upper respiratory infections. This must be really frustrating for you! Since four different antibiotics did not improve Skye's condition, I would think that her nasal discharge is either not due to bacterial causes or is a highly antibiotic resistant bacterium. Other causes of nasal discharge can include fungal infections, viruses, masses in the nasal cavity, presence of foreign material (I once saw carpet fibers cause nasal issues!), etc. Unfortunately, I don't think there are any at home remedies that will help Skye. At this point, I would recommend having your vet recheck her and consider x-rays or a nasal culture as the next diagnostic steps.

Antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory, like prednisone, would probably be the best treatment. An antibiotic to treat any infection and an anti-inflammatory to treat any inflammation and swelling. There really is not any good over the counter medications appropriate to treat so he should be examined by a vet for treatment.

Hi. It sounds like Mayor has an upper respiratory infection. These can be caused by viruses, bacterial, or fungal infections. There isn't anything unfortunately from home that would cure it or treat it. That would have to come from your veterinarian. This evening you can close a small bathroom door, turn on shower as hot as possible, get the room very steamy/humid, and place him in that bathroom with the steam for 10 min 2-3 times a day. This isn't treating the infection, but helps break up mucous to make him more comfortable. Good luck.

Hi there and thank you for your post! In regards to keeping him in a room that is air conditioned while he has a sinus infection, this is absolutely fine. The air conditioning will not worsen the infection. If he has already been started on a course of antibiotics then I would expect some improvement within a few days. If he is worsening or not doing any better than I would take him back into your veterinarian for a recheck to ensure additional treatments are not needed. I hope this helps!
