Is AC okay for puppy with sinus infection? When will antibiotics work?

Instead, I recommend you have Boo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If they agree that it does look like a sinus infection they would prescribe antibiotics. You can try some Benadryl twice a day to see if this helps. See link below. You can also put her in a small bathroom with a hot steamy shower going to allow the steam to help break up the mucus. If it isn't improving, then I would have your vet take a look at her. Unfortunately, a lot of dog end up needing antibiotics to help get rid of these upper respiratory infections. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. If your puppy is not improving after being on medications for a week or is worsening, I would schedule a recheck with your vet. Sometimes switching to a different antibiotic may help. The particular antibiotic that your puppy is on may also cause growth defects, but this is rarely seen. I typically use Clavamox or doxycycline for Respiratory bugs in puppies. Another alternative treatment your vet might consider, is initiating nebulization therapy to help relieve some of the symptoms your puppy is experiencing. Thank you for reaching out to the consultation service. If she is still acting lethargic and has not improved after 10 days of the antibiotic‘s, there are only a few reasons why this is not working. She should be showing signs of improvement by this time if the drugs being used the correct medications for the condition being treated. But obviously something is wrong. First, you may have been giving an antibiotic that was resistant against the infectious agent or whatever is causing the disease. Second, if it is indeed a virus causing the symptoms, then an antibiotic will not be effective. Lastly, maybe the dosage needs to be increased in milligrams as well as frequency. I strongly urge you to contact your veterinarian the soonest possible to have another physical examination performed. You may even need to do some chest x-rays or a cold sure of the respiratory mucus. Please do this before the symptoms worsen and your dog gets sicker. I hope I have helped you today. I'm sorry to hear Cooper isn't feeling well. If he is having recurrent infections there may be a source of the problem in his nasal passages. This could be a growth, a foreign body, or an infected tooth. I recommend discussing a sedated oral exam and possible skull radiographs with your vet. Antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory, like prednisone, would probably be the best treatment. An antibiotic to treat any infection and an anti-inflammatory to treat any inflammation and swelling. There really is not any good over the counter medications appropriate to treat so he should be examined by a vet for treatment.

Hello, and I'm sorry to hear that Layla has been unwell. Her dose of antibiotic does not seem inappropriate. It is possible that the antibiotic choice is incorrect. Since she is not improving, your vet may recommend a change of medication, or consider blood work and chest x-rays to rule out pneumonia, which may require other treatments such as IV fluid therapy and IV antibiotics. In the meantime, you can try a humidifier, or saline nasal sprays to help loosen secretions in her nasal cavity. Your vet may also suggest a cough suppressant to help improve her comfort.
