My rescue dog has a sinus infection. Will it heal naturally?

While she could be experiencing seasonal allergies, an upper respiratory tract infection is more likely given the congestion and nasal discharge. I suspect she will need antibiotic therapy to start. Most upper respiratory infections from the shelter are viral, but young newly adopted dogs are at greater risk for secondary bacterial infections Which is why they often get put on antibiotics. However, many otherwise healthy adult dogs will recover quickly without any antibiotics. I Ted to treat it like you would a cold in yourself. Fluids, Rest, and a little time as long as appetite is normal and acting fine otherwise . Antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory, like prednisone, would probably be the best treatment. An antibiotic to treat any infection and an anti-inflammatory to treat any inflammation and swelling. There really is not any good over the counter medications appropriate to treat so he should be examined by a vet for treatment.

Since she is not improving, your vet may recommend a change of medication, or consider blood work and chest x-rays to rule out pneumonia, which may require other treatments such as IV fluid therapy and IV antibiotics.
