My dog is barking silently and has eye discharge. Should I worry?

These signs are very concerning. It sounds as though your dog is suffering from a condition affecting her respiratory system. This may be caused by a bacterial or viral infection, especially if it is affecting the pups as well. She needs to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Consider keeping her separated from the puppies until she can be seen by a vet. You may want to schedule an appointment for the puppies as well.

Lydia most likely has a kennel cough which is a bacterial upper respiratory infection. Since she has green eye discharge and isn't drinking she probably has a fever. I recommend a veterinary exam to confirm the diagnoses and they will give her antibiotics. She will need to stay quiet and rest for a week or two while she recovers. If this is kennel cough it is contagious so please keep her away from other dogs until she has fully recovered. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Buttercup. It is difficult to say without seeing a picture, but a lot of small breed dogs will experience epiphora or clear tearing of the eyes. As along as it is clear, the eye is not red and the dog is not squinting, it is generally not an issue. However, if it is new and only one eye, you will want to have her evaluated by her veterinarian. She can have an eyelash contacting the surface of her eye causing irritation. They will not vaccinate a sick puppy as it will not work and stress their immune system more With those signs I would worry about an infection such as distemper or respiratory virus. She does need to be seen by the vet so she can get treatment for that

This sounds like she has a mild cold or upper respiratory infection. Generally these are viral colds and will run their course over a week or so. Just like with us no antibiotics are needed unless she develops a secondary bacterial infection. If the discharge becomes green and her condition worsens then please bring her right in for treatment. Hi, I can see the yellowish discharge in the right eye. In cases of eyes I would always play it safe and recommend to have it checked by a vet properly stain the eye to ensure cornea is intact and no foreign body etc. Since the dog is active , drinking , eating etc and not scratching/rubbing or bothered by the eye it is not urgent but I would schedule an appointment with the vet when they are open after the new year. Monitor she is not scratching the eye as even one movement can scratch and self traumatize the eye, so if start bothering her and she is scratching take her to the vet sooner as she will need an E collar.

I would be concerned that she hurt herself somehow. Unfortunately, without a physical examination it is hard to say exactly what is causing her symptoms. I would consider calling your veterinarian if she is still having this issue when you wake up in the morning and having her seen.
