My dog shook after I yelled. Did I scar him or hurt his ears?

Wally most likely was just scared of the loud sound. If he is acting normal now, then it is unlikely there is physical damage. This can happen from insect bite, accidentally tearing a toenail, or a number of other minor, but painful things. It could also be related to a back injury, clot, bladder stone, or other more serious medical conditions- though he’s pretty young for those things. He could also have been scared for some unknown reason (thunder, cat outside, motorcycle reviving up, etc), If you have the ability to check on him at lunch (or have someone else check on him at lunch) that would be ideal, though very likely he will be completely normal by then. Based on his responses he could be in pain. When an animal Berks they are letting you know that something is either painful or fearful to them. I would encourage you to at least get him examined to make sure and absolutely certain that he doesn't have an internal injury that you just may not see on the outside. If he is just fearful it may take them a week or two at the most special if you work with him every day with enjoyable activities and positive reinforcement. Coax him out with some favorable treats and show him extra attention daily. Eventually he will come around, especially if you all had a close bond up until this incident. Best wishes!

Hello and thanks for your post! He likely got a little frightened by the noise and may have choked on his food a bit, but he should be okay if he's calm now and has no signs of choking or distress. If he continues to cough or begins coughing tomorrow, he may have aspirated some of the food and should be seen by a veterinarian, but I think this may be unlikely. It is possible that he could have sustained a minor soft tissue injury, but as long as he is otherwise acting normally - eating/drinking/urinating/defecating - and not showing any signs of lameness/limping, he should be OK! I would suggest not using a loud voice with Yogi as this clearly has scared him and will cause anxiety. This anxiety may actually make his behavior worse in the future. You may want to look into getting an Adaptil collar for Yogi as this may help with his anxiety. I would continue to monitor him for any return of problems that you noticed and if they appear, I would have your vet evaluate him to make sure his legs are normal and that he seems physically within normal limits. Hard to say what happened. He may have been dreaming and was startled, possibly straining his legs. Sounds like he's good today so I don't think you have anything to worry about.
