My dog woke up yelping, dazed, with strange leg, then seemed fine?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Frankie is super cute! That sounds like a scary situation to wake up to! I think he will be fine. Some dogs dream "actively"! My own dogs whole body convulses and he makes a lot of noise when he dreams. Frankie was either having a very active dream or did have a charlie horse type cramp. Just check where he was sleeping to be sure there wasn't something poking him or an insect that bit him. Watch him carefully over the next day or 2 to see if a limp develops in that leg. It is possible that he could have sustained a minor soft tissue injury, but as long as he is otherwise acting normally - eating/drinking/urinating/defecating - and not showing any signs of lameness/limping, he should be OK! Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Leo! I am so glad he is walking normally now, that is very good news! He probably just hit his leg hard when he fell. The fact he is walking normally now likely means nothing is broken. I would rest him for 2-3 days. If the limping returns take him to the vet, otherwise he should be fine! It’s impossible to know without an exam if that episode was a bad dream or related to pain. Watch Orlando very closely for any repeated episodes, limping or reluctance to move. Once he wakes up, check his nails and make sure none are broken and that there aren’t any wounds on the feet. If you see anything questionable, have him seen by his veterinarian. It’s possible he got a toe nail stuck in the bed and it twisted and if the nails are long, get them trimmed. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Milo could have acted this way for a number of reasons including: - bite or sting on one of the back paws - litter or tape stuck on the paws -back or leg pain -neurological problem If he seems normal now, I would just monitor for another episode. If possible, catch another episode like this on video for your vet. If he has any other weird or concerning signs, see your vet sooner. Best wishes to you and Milo!

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I recommend you observe him and see if the episode occurs again, and if it does, get a video of it. It could have been just Milo acting funny, or could have been a focal seizure, or something else. I also recommend having Milo checked for signs of heart disease, liver disease (shunts) and signs of congenital brain malformations. Best of luck with Milo!

If he is otherwise doing well without limping, I think it would be ok to monitor him for now. However, if he develops a limp or any other signs such as crying in pain, inappetence or continued lethargy, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
