My senior dog was scared by a loud alarm. Are his ears damaged?

Hello. No, I really do not think you have done any harm to Charlie Brown at all. Dogs are brave, sensitive & very smart. He knew something was wrong & you were upset, but his job was to stick by your side & comfort you ( & find comfort ) the best way he could. He will be fine. Do not worry. Poor Bella! She was probably really frightened by the fireworks. She is probably still anxious that there will be more of those loud sounds. I would monitor her for now. She hopefully should return to her normal self in a day or two. I'd let her sleep, as she probably didn't get much sleep last night. In the meantime, you can get a pheromone diffuser called DAP that helps dogs with anxiety. If she isn't back to her normal self in a day or two, I'd take her into your vet for a health exam.

I would discuss this with your veterinarian during a physical. That would make sure there is nothing medical going on with Moka. It would be a good idea to have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. There could be an ear infection bothering him or something else with the ears or he is becoming more nervous as he ages with certain noises and things being near his head if his vision is not very good any more.
