My young Labrador is crying, shaking, and acting scared at night.

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Oh I am sorry to hear Fido is not feeling well today. He is very cute! There are a wide variety of health problems that can cause shaking/crying and decreased appetite. Pain or discomfort from a number of health problems could cause the shaking and crying. Decreased appetite may be due to pain or can be due to nausea from any number of health issues such as orthopedic conditions, organ dysfunction, infections, autoimmune diseases, toxins, or certain types of cancers. Due to the variety of possibilities in this case, I would highly recommend Fido be seen by his veterinarian right away for an evaluation. He may need blood work and/or x-rays to help determine a cause so he can get appropriately treated. I hope this helps and best of luck to you and Fido!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bailey! I think Bailey may be in pain after the fall. He could have injured his back or neck and is afraid to go down the stairs because it hurts. Crying out randomly is common when dogs are in pain especially when their back and necks are injured. I would have Bailey seen by your Vet to see if he is truly in pain or traumatized behaviorally from the Hurricane. If there is no medical issue he may need to be started on anti-anxiety medications and re-training. I hope this helps and I wish Bailey a speedy recovery!

It is difficult to say for sure what the problem is since you are not able to find one particular area that is affected. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Bo to see if something can be found on a physical examination and then go from there in regards to diagnostics and treatment options. You could also monitor him for 24 hours and if there is no improvement, then schedule an exam with a veterinarian. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Wager! I don't think his behavioral barking when your husband is out of town explains what happened this morning on your walk. I think what Wager did was a medical problem. I am glad he is at your Vet. Possible causes are: he was painful, had a seizure, heart problem (arrhythmia), sudden bleed into his belly or around his heart. I hope you have some answers and feel free to repost if you have additional questions. I hope Wager recovers quickly!

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am sorry that Beau isn't feeling well. Crying intermittently with no external injuries can be caused by a number of factors. If he is reluctant to walk or limping, then either a soft tissue injury in a joint/fracture/ or torn ligament is possible, however this you would expect to see some limping. Puppies can also get 'growing pains' and conditions of their joints, which affect all of their joints equally, so they are just reluctant to move. This can be incredibly painful and requires strong pain medication. The other common cause of crying out can be gastric pain. This can be caused by Beau getting into something he shouldn't have (bones, garbage, raw food, socks, underwear, etc) and his abdomen being very sorry. Usually with this you will see a reluctance to eat, possibly vomiting/diarrhea, and sometimes pain when you push on his abdomen. If this is the case I strongly suggest to stop the Deramaxx (hard on the gut, especially so young), and to have him re-checked by your vet and x-rays performed. An ultrasound may also be needed to make sure he doesn't have a peritonitis (infection in his abdominal cavity). He could also have a gastritis from worms, so making sure he is up to date on his worming is needed. A fever can also cause animals to feel unwell, so a full physical exam including his temperature is important. I would strongly suggest a re-visit with your vet, and they will likely need to do more tests, like an x-ray as mentioned, or if no answer is found there, or if Beau has a fever some bloodwork may be needed. Hi there. It looks like your puppy either had an injury or may have someone that is chewing hair off his tail. I'm not sure the shaking is related to the tail wound. If your puppy is eating and drinking, and doesn't have any other abnormal signs, I would try and reassure him that everything is fine by giving him a treat and then having your vet check the tail tomorrow. If Oreo has any other abnormal signs, I would have him checked by a vet tonight because shaking can indicate low blood sugar, fever or other illness. I hope that helps! Seeing that Booboo is 12 years old, I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian and have his blood tested to make sure that there are no major changes to his blood that would indicate why he is exhibiting these symptoms. He may be shivering and whimpering because of discomfort. The vomiting could be due to systemic illness or infection. The sooner he is seen by a veterinarian the better.
