My dog is shaking, vomiting, and gurgling. Should I see a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 10 months old | 17 lbs

My dog started shaking a couple hours ago. He asked to go outside and then threw up twice. Since he’s been shaking and acting like he doesn’t feel well. He will still eat and drink. I have heard his stomach making some gurgling noises, almost sounds like gas but it doesn’t appear bloated and doesn’t feel hard. Should I wait to see if he feels better or take him in?

Poor guy. I would be cautious here and take him in to your local vet right away if this has been going on for more than 30 mins-1 hr or if he is lethargic. A number of things could be going on here such as a toxin ingestion, severe stomach upset episodes or an underlying disease such as Addison's disease. Check his gum color immediately and if you notice pale gums then he should be seen right away as well.
I do hope that this is just a stomach upset and that he starts to improve over the next hour. If he does seem to calm down, then you should definitely fast him for the next 12 hrs (water only), then you should feed him a bland diet of boiled plain chicken or lean ground turkey and white rice for the next few days to help settle his stomach. I hope that Finn's stomach calms down soon so that you don't have to get him seen. Best of luck moving forward. Take care! : )

I can certainly understand being concerned about Niko! If he did have bloat, you would see unproductive vomiting, abdominal pain, an enlarged belly, restless, and pacing. It could be that he is feeling unwell from stomach upset causing the burping and strange behavior. The shaking could be caused by pain. I would monitor Niko for now. If he does start to show signs of bloat, or starts vomiting and becomes very lethargic, I would have him seen by an emergency vet. Otherwise, have him seen by a vet in the morning should these same symptoms continue.

Oh dear! I'm afraid this sounds very serious. Some possible causes of the symptoms you are describing would include GDV (gastric dilatation and volvulus, or "bloat"), heat stroke, or ingestion of something toxic. This may be a life-threatening emergency, so I would recommend taking Finn to an emergency clinic immediately to be seen. If you're not sure where to go, try calling your regular vet's office - their voicemail message should have contact information for your nearest ER or an on-call doctor for emergencies.

I hate to hear that Pantufla is not feeling well! Just like humans, there are many many causes of vomiting and some of the causes can be very serious. Any pet vomiting beyond 24 hours should be examined by the veterinarian. Any pet who is vomiting more than twice in a day or not holding down water also needs to be examined by the veterinarian. I am concerned that the shaking you are seeing indicates abdominal pain which is very worrisome for an intestinal blockage or pancreatitis. I recommend to have Pantufla examined today. Hello, I am sorry to hear about Stuart. It sounds like Stuart is not feeling well at all. Shaking is a nonspecific sign in dogs but could be a sign of discomfort/pain. Vomiting and lack of appetite could be signs of a problem within the GI tract, such as ingestion of foreign material or garbage, or possibly a sign of an infectious disease. It could also be a sign of a problem outside the GI tract such as liver/kidney disease or pancreatitis. As Stuart is still a young puppy with any vomiting or lack of appetite they can have a challenging time maintaining their blood sugar and temperature so I would strongly urge you to have him seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. It sounds as your pet is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet urgently, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. . if the vet thinks it is more serious he will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

I'm sorry to hear about Shadow! The stretching and pacing is a sign of abdominal pain. This could be something as simple as gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach and intestines) caused by eating something naughty. This may be especially true if he only vomited a few times and has since stopped. However, this could also be something very serious such as pancreatitis or an intestinal blockage (especially worrisome if he is known to eat toys, socks, rocks, or other non-food items). If he is not fully vaccinated, parvovirus is also a life-threatening possibility. Because of these possibilities, I strongly recommend you see your vet. Why does my dog keep throwing up daily but seems otherwise healthy?

Poor Finn! I would try to feed him a bland diet of plain boiled boneless, skinless chicken and white rice to see if this settles his tummy. If the vomiting is happening first thing in the morning before breakfast, it would be acid reflux. To remedy this you can try feeding him right before bedtime and right when you wake up. Acid reflux is from the acid building up in their stomach overnight when they go a long period without food. If these tricks don't help or he is showing any new symptoms, I would have your vet take a look at him. Your vet will be able to determine the cause and get him started on the proper meds to help him feel better. I hope this helps!
