Why is my dog's belly gurgling with vomiting, diarrhea, and pacing?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 4 months old | 70 lbs

My black lab/German Shepherd mix has been having belly issues. His belly makes loud gurgling noises and he’s puking and has diarrhea. He won’t sit still and he keeps walking around stretching his back legs however when I rub his back legs/hips it doesn’t hurt him. I did it to just check and see if that was the problem

I'm sorry to hear about Shadow! The stretching and pacing is a sign of abdominal pain. This could be something as simple as gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach and intestines) caused by eating something naughty. This may be especially true if he only vomited a few times and has since stopped. However, this could also be something very serious such as pancreatitis or an intestinal blockage (especially worrisome if he is known to eat toys, socks, rocks, or other non-food items). If he is not fully vaccinated, parvovirus is also a life-threatening possibility. Because of these possibilities, I strongly recommend you see your vet. This is especially true if the vomiting has lasted for more than a few hours or is very frequent. I hope this helps! Best of luck to you and Shadow!

Depends on your pets age, sex and if he/she is neutered/spayed, etc. We don't have much to go on here, but if your pet is vomiting and has bloody stool as is not fully vaccinated, then he/she could have parvovirus infection. This is a very contagous and deadly virus that is picked up from the soil where another pet has defecated the virus out on. I would highly recommend taking your pet to the vet for a parvo test if this is the case.
If your pet is fully vaccinated, then this could be due to something he/she ate or even pancreatitis is a possibility. I would take him/her to your vet for an exam, pancreatitis test, and/or x-rays of his/her belly to look for a foreign body. All of these conditions are treatable if caught early, but parvovirus carries a 80% survival rate or more when the pet is hospitalized but only around a 40% chance of survival when the pet is treated outpatient (at home medicine).

Oh my. Poor guy. If he has a fever this can be caused by a bacterial or viral infection (i.e. Parvovirus if he isn't fully vaccinated). I would have him tested for parvovirus first and if that comes up negative he needs full panel bloodwork and a urinalysis. to fully evaluate him. He should be on antibiotics and fluid therapy to help bring down his fever. He also needs anti-vomit medication to prevent him from becoming dehydrated due to excessive vomiting. If his condition has not improved within 24-48 hrs, then you should consider having him hospitalized so that he can get around the clock care and treatment. Poor guy. I do hope that your pup Shadow is able to make a full and speedy recovery from his illness. For tonight you can try feeding him some slghly warmed up cans of baby food (meat and vegetables or squash) to try to entice him to eat. My dog is shaking, vomiting, and gurgling. Should I see a vet?

Poor guy. I would be cautious here and take him in to your local vet right away if this has been going on for more than 30 mins-1 hr or if he is lethargic. A number of things could be going on here such as a toxin ingestion, severe stomach upset episodes or an underlying disease such as Addison's disease. Check his gum color immediately and if you notice pale gums then he should be seen right away as well. I do hope that this is just a stomach upset and that he starts to improve over the next hour. If he does seem to calm down, then you should definitely fast him for the next 12 hrs (water only), then you should feed him a bland diet of boiled plain chicken or lean ground turkey and white rice for the next few days to help settle his stomach. I hope that Finn's stomach calms down soon so that you don't have to get him seen. Best of luck moving forward. Take care! : )

My puppy ate pizza and is now vomiting, has diarrhea, won't eat.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Shadow! Some dogs can not handle people food due to sensitive stomachs. Shadow is a bit young to be fed pizza. It likely caused inflammation of his stomach and intestines or pancreatitis. he could also be vomiting and not eating for other reasons: foreign body ingestion (something is stuck requiring surgery), viral (parvo) or bacterial infections, intestinal parasites, toxin ingestion, other food allergies or sensitivities. Since Shadow is so young if he is still vomiting I recommend he see your Vet today. If the vomiting has stopped I would try to feed him a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day for 3-5 days then transition him back to his puppy food. If he continue to not eat he should be seen by your Vet before the weekend. Poor girl. These symptoms are suggestive of an internal illness (i.e. bacterial infection, kidney disease, liver disease, etc) for sure, and therfore its best to get Jace seen by your vet as soon as they open. If you can get her seen within the next 12-24 hrs, then that should be suitable enough. Continue to monitor her gums (should be nice and pink, if pale then it is an emergency), breathing (shortless of breath is an emergency) and energy level (severe lethargy and unresponsiveness is an emergency) for now. 4 days is very long for a dog to have vomiting and diarrhea. I recommend that Alexa see a vet as soon as possible. Potential causes for her illness include dietary intolerance, dietary indiscretion, food allergy, intestinal parasites, GI blockage, gastroenteritis, bacterial or viral infection, IBD, pancreatitis, among others. Your vet may recommend abdominal x-rays, bloodwork, or an intestinal parasite screen to help diagnose her ailment and create an appropriate treatment plan.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Wrigley. I recommend that you seek emergency veterinary care for him immediately. Non-productive retching (ie. trying to vomit without bringing anything up) can be a sign of a life threatening emergency. This can occur in cases of GDV (where the stomach enlarges and twists). In this case, his belly may be large or firm to your touch. Pacing tends to indicate pain and anxiety. His breed is prone to this condition. Puppy not eating, stomach gurgling, and gassy. When to see a vet?

An upset stomach is a common problem with puppies and is usually self-limiting (will go away on its own). It may not be serious right now, but it's always possible that it could be the start of something serious. If Jack has any of the following, then he should see a vet: 1) Blood in diarrhea 2) Very watery diarrhea 3) Starts acting very depressed 4) Stops eating or drinking for longer than 24 hours. 5) Diarrhea lasts longer than three days. You can try feeding bland food (boneless chicken and rice is good). Feed small portions (1/4 cup or less) three times a day. Ensure fresh, clean water is always available.
