My dog is shaking, tail tucked, not drinking. Is she constipated?

You need to confirm that she is constipated and that there is not another problem. A lit of times straining to defecate can be due to diarrhea not constipation. It would also be a good idea to evaluate her hindlimb with x-rays. She may have joint disease in her hips of knees that make it difficult for her to posture when trying to defecate. If she is constipated still, you need to see if it is just feces causing the blockage or if there is a foreign object causing the obstruction. In the meantime, offer her plenty of water to help to soften the stool. I hope this information helps!

You can give canned green beans or canned pumpkin to help with conistpation. Howevere I would be more concerned he is not constipation and he is just in pain and does not want to lift his tail and push to go since he is sensitive when you mess with his tail. If there is an injury or a bite of some sort around his tail, then it may be too painful for him to try to go. If he does not go then I would take him to your vet to make sure there is nothing else going on and see if he needs pain medication

Poor baby. It sounds like he may have injured something. It is common for them to injure their back or neck and act this way. I would have your vet look st him today. Your vet will be able to localize the pain and give him the appropriate pain meds to help him feel better. If it is his lower back, you vet may also prescribe him a stool softener so it is easier for him to have a bowel movement. Your vet will also be able to do X-rays if needed. Many dogs who have back pain due to a herniated disc or other problem act very much like this, so this would be my first suspicion based on your description. She could also be uncomfortable due to abdominal pain, or some other injury that is not visible from the outside. I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam today if possible - he/she can do x-rays or other testing if needed to help determine the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.

A few tablespoons of plain canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) or a tablespoon of Psyllium powder (unflavored) can help move things along. However the other symptoms you mentioned do sound concerning to me. Decreased appetite along with drinking more water frequently and constipation may signal a kidney function issue, liver issue, or may be due the development of diabetes among other causes. My recommendation would be to have Pretty girl seen by her veterinarian as soon as possible for an exam and perhaps some blood work to check her organ function as there may be an underlying health issue here.
