My dog yelped, trembling, won't eat, drink, or potty. What's wrong?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Gage! I would worry that Gage has hurt his back or neck. This is how they tend to act. They also don’t jump up in furniture like normal and avoid the stairs. They cry when touched, picked up or move. I would take him in to your vet today before the holiday for an exam. I treat neck and back pain with anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants and pain medications. I wish Gage a speedy recovery!

He may have some spinal cord problems, especially with the cervical spinal cord, such as a slipped disk or arthritic changes that press on nerves and are painful. Ob is apparently very much in pain and therefore should be seen by a veterinarian tonight. The vet will do a thorough physical exam, palpate the spine to find where the pain is coming from, and also do a neurological exam and then x-rays. He will then discuss the exam findings with you and possible treatment. Your dog will get pain medicine and other medications as necessary. Dogs with pain often do not eat, and eating also may be painful as he has to chew, open his mouth and move the jaws. This may be more painful than lapping up water.

Poor Belle! It sounds like she is experiencing some pain and she could have a problem with her back or possibly abdominal pain. In order to diagnose, she needs to be examined by a vet to localize the source if the pain. She may need an anti-inflammatory and pain medications to help treat the problem. You should restrict her activity until she is seen by a vet; no running, jumping, etc. Hope she feels better soon!

Hello, sorry to hear about Zorro. Based on what you are describing, I suspect he could have neck or back pain. This is commonly caused by a slipped disk, however a full physical and neurologic exam are needed to confirm this suspicioun. Additionally, other things such as pancreatitis may cause abdominal pain and this is commonly accompanied by a loss of appetite, vomiting, and occasionally diarrhea. Please have zorro seen by your veterinarian soon if he is not getting better or if he is getting worse. Monitor for progressive lethargy, vomiting, or even diarrhea. Additionally, monitor him for dragging his fore or back limbs, progressive pain around his neck or back. If you note any of these then have him evaluated immediately. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Jack! Jack is obviously painful! Beagles commonly get slipped disks in their backs and suffer from back and neck pain. The symptoms you are describing occur with back or neck pain. It is best to have Jack seen by a Vet. I treat back pain with strict rest, anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants and pain medications. I do not recommend starting human medications as they might interfere with your vet's choice of medications. I hope this helps and I wish Jack the best!

This sounds like a neurological problem affecting the spinal cord. Intervertebral disc extrusion and spinal cord infarct are most likely at this stage given initial pain and clinical signs. An immediate check up is needed ti confirm this suspicion and investigate and treat appropriately. Sweet puppy! If he is yelping then I would be concerned about him being in pain. He looks like it may be neck or back pain. Make sure he is still eating and drinking. If he is in a lot of pain, he may not. There are no human meds you can give as most are toxic to dogs. I would recommend to have your vet examine him and see exactly where he may be pain and prescribe him some pain medications that are safe for him. I hope this helps!
