Why is my dog restless, circling, and agitated with a sensitive ear at night?

Hello. Is the circling always in the same direction? Can you call her from the circling & stop the behavior? If not, this may be indicative of an inner ear infection, or more seriously, a brain lesion. You should have Snickers evaluated at your earliest convenience to diagnose the cause of this behavior. He may be having a lot of pain when he wakes up doing this. If he hasn't yet been to a vet he needs to be seen as soon as possible. If the pain makes him shake his head, he could shake it too hard and break a blood vessel in his ear and cause a hematoma which needs surgery to correct. Plus, ear infections hurt, and he needs relief as soon as possible. Your vet will do an exam, labwork and will probably prescribe antibiotics and drops for the ears.

Hi. Poor Bo Luke. Sounds like he most likely has an ear infection. Sometimes these can be in the middle or inner ear, or be bad enough to spread there from outter ear. This can then cause pain, lethargy, swelling, head tilting, and walking as if drunk/ to one side. He will need an exam, ear exam, ear cytology to see if yeast or bacterial, then put on the correct medications, and pain medications! With these signs, I would take him to ER tonight. He is pprobably pretty uncomfortable. Good luck

Oftentimes when a dog is rubbing his ear it can be because of an itch caused by infection. If the infection travels to the inner ear it can effect the dog's vestibular system (the system that helps a dog keep his balance). I would recommend taking Sonny to your vet to check for an ear infection or other inner ear problems.

She does need to see a vet as soon as you can as this sounds like a neurological problem. It may be a stroke, an inner ear infection, or vestibular disease. Your vet will examine her and start her on medicine to help with the dizziness and off balance so she can rest. Most regain normal function with time and treatment.

It does sound like your dog could be in pain, and that could be causing the restlessness at night. He simply can't find a position that he is comfortable in, and it hurts to curl up. He could have an injury to his neck, spine, hips, or limbs. I would take him into the vet today for an exam. He may also benefit from pain medications if he is in pain. Do not give him any human pain medications, many are toxic to dogs and fatal if given. The vet can prescribe him safe pain medications if needed.

Given that Winston has been struggling with these ear problems for a month, and the fact it is getting worse, he should see a vet as soon as possible. The vet can confirm he does have an ear infection, diagnose the cause, and prescribe a treatment for him. It's very important to have any ear problems examined and treated promptly, as leaving it untreated can lead to hearing loss. I know it's after-hours, but I would find a vet who can see him right away.
