My dog rubs his ear and is wobbly. Could it be an ear infection?

Dog keeps rubbing ear now he is very wobbly and has fallen over a couple of times

Oftentimes when a dog is rubbing his ear it can be because of an itch caused by infection. If the infection travels to the inner ear it can effect the dog's vestibular system (the system that helps a dog keep his balance). I would recommend taking Sonny to your vet to check for an ear infection or other inner ear problems.

Poor guy. He may have an inner ear infection that is causing some vestibular disease symptoms (falling over, head tilt, nausea). He need to be examined by your local vet soon to properly diagnose this and get him on treatment. He likely will need topical ear flush, anti-nausea medication and potentially oral antibiotics. I hope Sonny is able to get back to his normal self soon. Best wishes at the vet.

This can then cause pain, lethargy, swelling, head tilting, and walking as if drunk/ to one side. He will need an exam, ear exam, ear cytology to see if yeast or bacterial, then put on the correct medications, and pain medications! With these signs, I would take him to ER tonight. He is pprobably pretty uncomfortable. Good luck

It sounds like Libby have a severe ear infection, and I would take her into a vet immediately. This will be very painful to her, and leaving it untreated can lead to hearing loss. This presentation could be due to an ear infections. Three sections of the ear can be infected, the external portion (otitis externa), the middle portion (otitis media) and the inner portion (otitis interna). Otitis externa is the most common ear infection in dogs. In this case it seems an external ear infection but an otoscopic examination will determine the exactly the extension of it. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.

Facial drooping suggests that there may be facial paralysis (due to a lesion on the nerve that innervated the facial muscles) or a stroke event has occurred. You should definitely be able to look at Sumo's ears to see if he has any signs of an ear infection - these would include redness, a foul odor, and usually some type of discharge or "gunk" in the ear. If his ears are clean, not overly red, and don't smell bad, then you can be pretty certain that there is no infection :)

Your dog could have a middle or inner ear infection. The symptoms for middle and inner ear infections are often similar to outer ear infections, and include pain in the ear, head shaking, infected or bloody discharge, and scratching or pawing at the head or ear. Your vet can diagnose an ear infection, and because untreated ear infections can lead to hearing loss, I'd recommend taking Speckles into your vet to have them examine the ear. If it is an ear infection, Speckles will need an antibiotic to treat the infection.
