Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 3 months old | 80 lbs
Over the past month, my dog has increasingly itched his ears more and more. They get yucky inside too - like blood and dirt. He shakes his head all of the time and itches at his ears. Even more recently, the tips have gotten bloody and scabby. We haven't switched his food, and he's on grain free, organic food. We have tried ear mite treatment, but it's not helping. Any idea on what may be going on?

I am sorry to hear about Winston! We could have a variety of things causing this issue, including a bacterial or yeast infection in the ear, ear mites, or a foreign object in the ear causing irritation. You could try cleaning the ear with an ear cleaning solution, or try an enzymatic product such as Zymox Otic HC (available online and at some stores), but if the ear is not improving within a few days, a visit to the vet is recommended.
