My dog's stool is red after switching food. Did I transition too fast?

If he's eating and acting fine give him a day or two to settle into his new environment. The soft stool with blood may be due to stress. If it continues please take another sample in to check again for parasites as they can come back even if he's already been treated. If Teddy is acting sick do take him in sooner for an exam. You likely don't need to fast her but just gradually switch her back to her normal diet over the next 3 to 7 days or so. However if the diarrhea persists or becomes bloody she needs to get checked out by a veterinarian because she could have an infection.

Hello, sorry to hear about Teddy. It sounds like he is trending in the right direction. Dogs with diarrhea will continue to have signs for up to 5 days after starting the medication. As long as he is improving this should be ok. The dark urine may be associated with the GI bleeding. If his signs worsen or if his signs persist longer than 5 days, then there could be something else going on (pancreatitis, liver disease, or kidney disease) and he should be re-evaluated immediately. Continue the bland diet for another 3 days then transition him to his regular diet. Hope this helps and best of luck.

As long as Isabelle is behaving normally, you can watch her at home. Consider a 24 hour fast, allowing small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. Begin with 1 tablespoon of food and gradually increase the amount if no other symptoms develop. Feed bland until the stool is normal then transition slowly to her regular diet. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. if any of these symptoms develop, have Isabelle physically examined by your vet.

This looks like Bear has soft stool, close to diarrhea. The red color could be caused by the color of his dogfood, but it could also be a little blood. If Bear is happy, does not appear ill, lethargic , eats and drinks you can do the following: Diarrhea can have many causes such as a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, an intestinal blockage, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  I would fast Bear for 24 hours and then put him on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or he starts vomiting, or if Bear gets lethargic, he needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.

You can add a canine probiotic to the diet that can help restore nirnak bacteria. You can feed boiled chicken and rice and yogurt also. A sample should be checked for parasites as he may need to be dewormed. Sometimes this can be caused by an infection, diet changes or stress from a new home and routine. If vomiting starts it he stops eating he needs to be seen immediately

You can transition Kash back. I would transition slowly by replacing a little more of the old food with the new every day to avoid stomach upsets. If he has loose stool, have him seen by a vet for it.
