My dog ran in snow & ice, now has a red sore on leg. Is it serious?

You can try to shave around it and clean it. If it continues to look superficial (as it looks on the picture), you can consider applying a thin film of triple antibiotic on it in case it is just a mild infection. Hello, this looks like a local irritation. If he wears a harness, you may need to adjust it or leave it off for a couple of days. Rubbing a small dab of 1% cortisone cream on the area twice a day should help, but stop after 72 hours, or sooner if the area becomes more irritated or redder. I agree with you that the area looks very irritated. It's a little difficult to tell from the pictures, but the area actually looks a little thickened or swollen, so I think it is worth having your veterinarian examine it and do some testing to see what might be going on in order to determine the best treatment for Atlas. It is difficult to make out exactly what this is based on the pictures, but it appears to be an ulcerated sore that has opened up on the paw pad. This area resembles a localized skin infection most likely caused by a bacteria that normally lives on his skin. It is quite red around the area so if you notice that these areas are spreading, getting worse and not improving, you should have your veterinarian evaluate Yeti. They can get a thorough history and then examine Yeti and the affected areas. Skin problems have many causes including bacterial infections, allergies, flea/tick/insect bites/stings, trauma, fungal infections, problems with mites, or even internal problems that present with skin involvement. Your vet can advise whether diagnostics are needed (skin tests, blood tests, etc) or if a treatment plan is indicated based on what they observe. Good luck with Yeti.

Poor Scrappy. It is difficult to see details as the picture is blurry. It almost looks like a mass in the picture. I would make she isn't licking or scratching it. I would put a cone collar on her to prevent the licking if needed. I would also have your vet take a look at it. With how red and ulcerated it is, she likely needs some antibiotics and may need to have it removed. I hope this helps.
