My senior dog has a red sore with white on its leg. What to do?

You can try to shave around it and clean it. If it continues to look superficial (as it looks on the picture), you can consider applying a thin film of triple antibiotic on it in case it is just a mild infection. The spot in the picture looks infected, it will need to be clipped and treated with antibiotics. he will also need to wear an e-collar in order to prevent him from licking the area and making it worse. i would recommend taking him to the vet in order to get it treated.

Ouch! Poor Lola! First thing you need to do is prevent her from licking it. If she continues to lick it will only get worse. You can place a cone collar on her to prevent this. Since it is bleeding and oozing a fluid, I am really concerned it is infected or something might be stuck in there. I would have your vet take a look at it. Your vet can properly clip and clean it and start her on the proper medicine to help her heal. They can even take an X-ray if needed. I hope this helps and she starts to feel better soon.

Hello. It is very difficult to determine what is going on with the leg, but the area looks like some kind of raised lesion. It looks like a tumor that has abscessed. It don't think it is just a cyst but, it could be. This is something that is difficult to diagnose just based on some photos. You really should have your vet check this out.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. From the pictures, the skin appears red and inflamed. It does look like it is infected. While this may not be a true emergency, I would recommend getting in to see your veterinarian very soon. Pookie will need the area shaved and cleaned up. Your vet may prescribe an antibiotic for this as well depending. Until you can get to your vet, you can keep the area clean and dry and use a mild soap and water to clean the wound. If Pookie is licking it, you can put on ECollar on her to prevent licking.
