My dog has a red ring with a black spot. Could it be a tick?

It’s common for a tick bite to have a raised firm nodule in the skin for several weeks. Be patient I expect this to go away in time. If it continues to look superficial (as it looks on the picture), you can consider applying a thin film of triple antibiotic on it in case it is just a mild infection. This doesn't look like a tick bite, more likely a wasp or bee sting that Milo may have scratched. Please clean it with antibacterial soap, rinse it well, dry the area then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. You can also put a little bit of cortisone cream on it to prevent itching. Please use a restraint collar is needed to prevent Milo from licking it. If it gets bigger, painful or Milo becomes lethargic and not eating then I would recommend a veterinary visit. Hello. It is impossible to see if this was a blood blister or tick, but I would continue to clean the area 1-2 times daily for a least a few days. My concern is if this was a tick, you might have squeezed the ticks contents into your dog & this may incite an inflammatory reaction or even cause one of the tick diseases. So watch Thunder over the next couple of weeks. If the blood spot returns, it may be a small tumor that needs to be evaluated. If Thunder becomes lethargic, shows some signs or joint pain, or loses his appetite, see your vet & ask to have Thunder tested for tick disease. Keep the area clean and dry. You can use a diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution to clean the area daily. Tick bites frequently result in a red, raised area (tick bite granuloma) after the tick drops off or is removed. The good news is that they resolve on their own within a few weeks.
