Dog has red mark after hiking. Is it a tick or sting? What to do?

Keep the area clean and dry. You can use a diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution to clean the area daily. Tick bites frequently result in a red, raised area (tick bite granuloma) after the tick drops off or is removed. The good news is that they resolve on their own within a few weeks. Resume Iggy's tick prevention and perform tick checks after being outdoors. Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Just keep a close eye on the area. A little Neosporin applied to the spot twice a day would be a good idea. Not all tick bites will cause disease, so just watch over the next 10 -14 days any signs of illness in Tobi. This would include lethargy, loss of appetite, reddened eyes. Take care.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). It does not specifically look like a tic bite. A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. Hello, thank you for your question about Buddy. Based on the photos that you have attached I think that it is very possible that this lesion could be a bug/spider bite. It is also possible that Buddy was exposed to something irritating to his skin. If he is not bothered at the area and it does not seem very painful I would recommend continuing to monitor him. If the lesion progresses or he develops any additional symptoms I would have Buddy evaluated by your veterinarian. Hope this helps, good luck!

I recommend that you continue to monitor Milo for now. If this lesion fails to improve on its own or it worsens have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hello. Is it possible that Charlie was bitten by something like a tick? This just looks like an acute inflammatory reaction. If you have some hydrocortisone cream, I would just rub a bit into the skin several times a day. If you do not have any cream, then please visit your Petco who will have several brands, including Zymox which is a very good product.
