Why does my 9-month-old dog have red eyes and yellow goop?

Poor pup! Recurring yellowish discharge is a common sign of an eye infection, or an injury to the eye such as a corneal scratch or ulcer. He will need prescription eye ointment from your veterinarian to treat this problem, so I would recommend taking him in for an exam as soon as you are able to.

Moo is adorable, but his eyes certainly seem uncomfortable given his squinting! Squinting is a sign of eye pain in dogs. Coupled with the yellow/green discharge, it is concerning that he may have an eye infection, corneal ulcer or uveitis (inflammation within the eyes). Allergies may be contributing, but the yellow/green discharge makes me suspicious that there is another issue present. If his eyes are itchy at all, make sure that Moo wears an e-collar (cone) until you can take him to the vet today or tomorrow to prevent further eye injury. I hope that all goes well!

Hi, if Sami has bilateral ocular discharge it is worthy to have him checked over, as he could be suffering with conjunctivitis. It is a painful condition that would not getter better on its own but would get better with appropriate treatment from your vet. It is important that he is checked over also for possible congenital eye problems, as this would require a different approach. As a general rule, waiting is not a good idea with eye conditions as they can get worse causing permanent sight loss or worse. I am sure Sami will get better soon with appropriate care, I just wanted to explain why we think a vet check up it ‘s important ! Lots of cuddles to Sami and wishes for a speedy recovery !

Poor Oreo! If he's had a sudden change in diet, that could be the cause of his diarrhea, but it could also be due to a GI illness, eating something rotten, or a foreign body. The discharge from his eye is indicative of an eye infection. He will need to see a vet for these problems. The eye infection has to be treated by a vet, as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Call his vet today to make an appointment so his problems can be diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.

If it's just the one eye there may be something going on on the corneal surface that you can't see with the naked eye. A vet would need to stain the eye to see a scratch. I would recommend taking him in to check that and get medications to heal it fast. Eyes can go from bad to worse very quickly. Good luck and kisses to Tucker!

This is a sign of conjunctivitis. It may have developed from allergies or an eye irritant like smoke or pollen. You can wipe the discharge from the eyes with a warm wet cloth, and use sterile eye drops to flush out the discharge. Since the discharge is pussy Pepper has an infection that would clear up more quickly with prescription eye ointment. I recommend an exam with your veterinarian. They will examine the eyes and may stain them to check for a corneal injury and also will check to see if Pepper has normal tear production. Dogs with dry eyes can be more prone to conjunctivitis.
