Why are my dog's eyes red in flash photos, is it a health issue?

This is normal in dogs! It's a part of their anatomy (also in cats and other similar species) called the tapetum lucidum. This is what gives dogs that glowy, reflective look and a "red eye" when looking into a camera or light at night. That may be the the tapetum lucidum causing the green. This is a normal structure of the cat's eye, and it's actually present in both eyes. The angle of the photo with the flash only caught the reflection off one of them.

Hello, that reflection in your dogs eyes appears like norma tapetal reflection. Red eyes do not always indicate blindness, so I wouldn't create that association with your dog's eyes. More so, look for any signs to bumping into things, being startled, looking into space and being unable to find his food bowl. These would be more likely to be consistent with blindness. From the photo this looks normal or a mild conjunctivitis. If she’s squinting, the eyes are painful or there is excessive tearing or discharge then please take her in for an eye exam tomorrow. To me it looks like her lower eyelids are more droopy than most dogs and this exposes more of the eyeball. That could result in the redness you are seeing. Again from the photo I’m not overly concerned at this point but I certainly recommend an exam to be sure there isn’t a medical problem that needs treatment. Dogs, just like people have different sensitivities to light, so some dogs may not like or feel comfortable when the flash goes off. Flash photography will not affect a dogs vision in a permanent way. I hope this helps and I wish you and Florence the best!

Based on what I can see in the photo, this looks like a normal blood vessel :) It's very common for dogs to have one or more enlarged veins in the white part of the eye, called "vortex veins" - these are normal, and are responsible for draining different types of fluid from inside the eye. As long as Delilah doesn't have any redness, squinting, or discharge from the eye, there should be no reason for concern.

That may be normal. A dog has a structure in the eye called the tapetum lucidum. It allows the dog to see better in the dark, it reflects light. I'd still have Daisy checked out by a vet to be safe. Poor girl being abused.
