What's the red line on my dog's eye white? Is it a scratch or a vein?

If Scarlet is squinting or if her eye has discharge I'd recommend seeing a veterinarian. The blood vessels in the eye can become larger when dogs are excited or when they have eye infection or inflammation. If just the one blood vessel is affected and she doesn't seem uncomfortable you probably don't need to intervene unless the redness gets worse.

It depends where the blood vessel is located. Whether the vessel you are seeing is in or on the surface of the eye can really help determine if this should be cause for concern. There can be normal blood vessels that are on the white part (sclera) of the eye ball itself. However, any evidence of a blood vessel inside the eyeball is not normal. Bulging vessels can occur if a dog has high blood pressure or something blocking flow of the blood through the vessel. It may be best to have your veterinarian examine Diesel's eye to ensure that this is not a sign of a disease affecting his entire body, such as high blood pressure.

Veins typically aren't thick in the eye, and that may not be normal. It could be related to her being scratched in the eye a month ago, and I would take your dog back into the vet to have her eye examined again.

Based on the picture, Peggy's blood vessel looks most like a vortex vein, which is a normal variation in some dogs. Vortex veins do not go away, but they also do not cause problems or require any treatment. However, I can't say definitively that this is indeed a benign vortex vein without examining Peggy to be sure that she doesn't have any other ocular changes. I would certainly take Peggy to a veterinarian right away for an exam and have a plan in place with the breeder if your vet feels that she may have other bigger issues after their exam. It looks like a swollen, engorged blood vessel. I am fairly sure that it is not a parasite/worm. Enlarged blood vessel like this can be a result of allergic reaction, trauma or inflammation to the eye bulb. If the eye is bothering Todd, please take him to your local vet for ophtalmic examination.

It's very difficult to tell from a picture if a dog or cat has scratched their eye. The best thing to do if this is what you fear may have happened is to allow a vet to put some fluoroscein solution into the eye. What this does is it seeks out any damaged corneal tissue and settles along it. This allows us to see if there is any actual damage, and if there is, tells us which medications are appropriate vs harmful. This is what I would suggest.
