Can flash photography permanently damage my dog's eyes or vision?

When you take photos of your pets or people and the flash hits the eyes at a certain angle you will be able to see through the pupils to the back of the lense which has a lot of blood vessels. This will appear red and is normal. This will often happen when you take pictures of people also. This is normal in dogs! It's a part of their anatomy (also in cats and other similar species) called the tapetum lucidum. This is what gives dogs that glowy, reflective look and a "red eye" when looking into a camera or light at night. For that reason, it would be best to have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment if you are concerned. Otherwise, she may be ok. Yes, this will not be harmful and at-most mildly disturbing to them. It's actually good to get them used to such things at a young age, so I would not worry too much if they do seem somewhat disturbed. I hope that helps and all is well with the kittens.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is a very interesting photo, and a great shot, however it cannot show us where exactly in the eye the mass is. It appears that it is within the globe of the eye itself, however it could also be in other locations. It is possible to get 'freckles' in the eye, however if there is a small mass, cancer is possible. I recommend you have Trace to the vet to have the eye assessed fully, and an ophthalmologist may be required. Some masses can be benign as well, and only a sample of the mass can confirm, but a simple eye exam to determine the exact location may be enough. It could also just be a normal feature of the eye that is presenting in an abnormal way (we call this 'artifact') on the image. Best of luck with Trace!
