My dog has red eye irritation. Is Optixcare working or do I need a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 11 months and 28 days old | 7 lbs

I dont agree with the answer I just got. The pic I gave clearly shows red irritation on the outer eye an I have started using Optixcare on her. Does this stuff take time or should I try something else?

Optixcare is an eye lube, it won't treat an infection if an infection is present, which is likely the case. you didn't attach a photo to this question so it's hard for me to tell you what it could be, with eyes when in doubt i always recommend a physical vet visit as it must be examined in person. if an infection is present she will need an antibiotic eye drops, this is prescription only anyway so you will need to see a vet for that.

Kitty is probably suffering from a severe eye infection and you cannot help her at home i'm afraid. you will need to take her to the vet ASAP to get the eyes checked and the vet will then prescribe antibiotic eye drops if it is only an infection. if the eye is injured or ulcerated Kitty might need some additional treatment.

It seems as Roxie is suffering from an eye infection, possibly from an eye injury (scratch), you will need to take her to the vet in order to have the eye checked and she will surely need a prescription antibiotic eye drops in order to get better.

Hi I'm worried that Roxie may have had an allergic reaction to something, or has an eye infection like conjunctivitis. You could try to give her a dose of benadryl. If that doesn't help and she seems distressed, you should take her to your vet. I can't legally give out the recommended dose for benadryl, as I have not examined her

However, there are some other diseases that really need a very thorough evaluation of the eye to diagnose. Hi there! I am assuming you are using Optimmune for dry eye? If so, there is often an eye infection as well that is brewing, due to having low tears. Because of this, I strongly recommend that you see a vet sooner, rather than later, as there are likely to be additional medications that can help your dog's eyes.

Why is my dog scratching her irritated eye? Terramycin isn't working.

Hello, thank you for your question about Pepper. Based on the photos that you've attached it looks like Kaizer has significant irritation of her eyelids and conjunctiva. There are many possible causes for this such as infection, allergies, parasites, etc. I would recommend having Pepper seen by your veterinarian so that they can examine the area and discuss the need for additional testing. They may recommend an impression smear/swab of the affected area to look at under the microscope. They can discuss additional treatment recommendations based on their findings, such as antibiotics, antihistamines, etc. In the meantime I would recommend continuing to use the e-collar to prevent Pepper for rubbing at her eyes. My cat's eyes are red and have discharge, what's the best treatment?

The NutriVet eye rinse is just a rinse, not a treatment for an infection. It won't hurt but it probably won't help in this case. Unfortunately I cannot tell much from the photos. We have a glitch in the system that won't allow me to enlarge them. I suggest you use this ophthalmic gel for a few days (if he is otherwise acting normally) but if no response or he gets worse then he needs to see a vet. Hello. It is always best to have your veterinarian examine any eye problem as soon as it is noticed. This can be an infection, irritation, or even the start of an autoimmune condition called Keratoconjunctivitis sicca. It may even be allergy driven. With the right treatment, the eyes can heal very quickly. The wrong or no treatment can let a simple problem blow up into a big one. So while I do use the Vetericyn ophthalmic products in certain conditions, if you have the means to have Sipsey actually examined, this would be the very best course of action. My cat has a watery eye. Are Optixcare eye wipes good for cleaning?

It's ok to use to clean the eyes but if one eye is tearing there is probably something wrong with it, possibly an infection, and this will need to be treated with a different product which only a vet can prescribe.

Why are my dog's eyes itchy and bothering her? Does she need a vet?

It is very important that Cutie be seen by a vet for proper diagnosis and treatment of her eyes. Over-the-counter medications are not recommended for use in treatment of eye disease without a vet’s recommendation, as some types of eye ointments and drops contain steroids that can severely damage the eye if it has a scratch/corneal ulcer. Her vet will need to evaluate her eye, and may recommend testing such as a Fluorescein stain to look for scratched/ulcers, tonometry to test the eye pressures and look for glaucoma, or a Schirmer tear test to evaluate tear production. In some cases a combination of causes can lead to an uncomfortable eye, and as you mentioned some eye conditions can be very painful. Sometimes if eyelashes/ hair are growing in a way that causes them to touch the eye it can lead to pain as well. Cutie looks to have quite large, bulging eyes, which predisposes her to conditions such as dry eye, and if you suspect she is in pain you are likely correct. Please book an appointment to have her seen by a vet, and good luck!
