My cat's eyes are red and have discharge, what's the best treatment?

Hello. Please do not put Visine in your kittens eyes. Visine can be drying & may make the eyes worse. Cinnamon has an upper respiratory infection, so to help the eyes, just take a cloth with warm water & gently clean away any discharge that collects around the nose & eyes. Make sure he keeps eating & try to encourage him to drink more fluids by offering chicken or beef broths & stocks & even tuna water. He should be OK to wait until you can see your vet. This could be allergies but it could be a viral or bacterial infection. I cannot tell from the photos. I suggest you use this eye gel on both cats for a week or two. The elevation of the third eyelid really just tells me that the eye is uncomfortable, it doesn’t really make a diagnosis. It can be a viral infection, an injury, allergies, or others. I would warm compress the eye several times a day, as well as gently rinse with an isotonic saline rinse several times a day. This can be purchased at any pharmacy in the human eye section. Hi, and thanks for your question. That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. It does look as if your car has an eye infection. If there is any associates sneezing and/or coughing it may be an upper respiratory infection as well. Based on the pictures a corneal ulceration cannot be ruled out. I would recommend taking your cat in to be examined by your veterinarian so the exact cause of the eye discharge can be determined. Oreo seems to have an infection. We cannot rule out a corneal ulcer just by looking at the picture. Cats often have upper respiratory tract infection, and develop conjunctivitis and I discharge because of it. Take Oreo to your veterinarian for a detailed exam that possibly will include staining the cornea to rule out ulcers. I forsee you will have to give eye meds at least twice a day or more depending on the physical findings. I would recommend having a vet check that first. If negative, he may have herpesvirus. This is common in cats and can flair up in times of change or stress.
