My dog's eye is weeping. Should I use Petco drops or see a vet?

However, there are some other diseases that really need a very thorough evaluation of the eye to diagnose. I think that if he has not improved on the current therapy, it may be a good idea to check in with your veterinarian. If they are concerned based on their knowledge of his case, they could consider having you consult with a veterinary ophthalmologist. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These are used in dogs. However, I do not recommend using any eye drops without consulting with a veterinarian who can examine Iker and decide what would be best depending on what is going on. Best of luck!

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. This certainly could be allergies causing the excessive watery eyes. There are over the counter eye drops that work well in eye allergy cases or a steroid drop from your vet. If they are still watering, I would ask the vet for a steroid eye drop and try this for a month to see if it helps. I hope this helps! It appears that she has an eye infection, and yes you should take her into the vet. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, uveitis, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. With eye problems I recommend a veterinarian to evaluate them. It could be something simple as an infection, allergies or dust or it can be more like a corneal ulcer. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Nico! You can warm compress the eye 2-3 times per day. I recommend you use an E-collar so he doesn't rub the eye and cause a scratch on the surface of the eye. Do not put anything in the eye until you see your Vet. Ointments or drops for the eye are made specifically to be safe for use in the eye. Ointments for the skin are not safe to be put in the eye. I wish you the best and Nico a speedy recovery!
