Why is my dog's eye red and has dried blood that won't wipe off?

Hyphema (blood in the front chamber of the eye, in front of the iris and pupil) can be caused by a number of different things including trauma to the eye, an eye infection, retinal detachment, or a systemic problem such as a clotting disorder or even some types of cancer. This is always a concerning sign, and should be checked out by a veterinarian as soon as possible to find out what's going on and see what kind of treatment is needed.

There is a red spot in his eye, indicating blood, and you need to be sure there is no damage to the cornea itself. The vet can do this at an appointment. Please take him into one in the morning. Hello, yes you definitely need to take him to your vet to get it checked, it's most likely a corneal ulcer, this can happen due to an injury or eye infection, often it can get worse and even cause blindness in that eye, it needs to be treated with special eye drops

This is a very abnormal looking eye and it appears that your dog has some serious issues with the cornea. The cornea is very cloudy and hazy and the pink lesion looks like a large ulcer on the cornea. This eye is likely chronically dry and lacking in tear production. This eye looks like it is in imminent danger of rupturing. I would recommend that you take your pet to the closest emergency clinic if you are unable to get help from a regular daytime vet right away. Your pet should be seen immediately and it is not a good idea to wait for 7 days. Your pet will likely need multiple prescription eye medications and possibly surgery in order to repair the defect. Please do not try to treat this without a proper diagnosis and proper medication.

I would recommend taking Princess in for a veterinary exam. Eyes tend to heal quickly or get bad quickly. The one picture looks similar to a scleral hematoma, but the other picture looks like something is going on in the cornea. The cornea can be an emergency situation if there is an ulcer present. The veterinarian will do some diagnostics like an eye stain and prescribe appropriate medications for her. Eye injuries are painful, so she might need pain meds. I would highly recommend taking her to a vet as soon as possible. Bleeding in the eye can be due to local trauma to the eye but also can be connected to underlying disease like toxin (rat poison), bleeding disorders, cancer, high blood pressure or infectious disease. I would be very concerned in an older dog with enlarged spleen that the blood in eye is related to this. I would recommend x-rays of the body and blood work to look at organ function and platelet count. Also, taking sassy to an ophthalmologist would be in her best interest

Without seeing your dog in person we cannot say for certain, but it is possible that this could be a subconjunctival hemorrage. It can be a result of hypertension (elevated blood pressure), trauma, coagulopathy (blood clotting disorder). Usually this goes away on its own eventually, but if he is acting uncomfortable then a vet visit it best. They can test your dog's blood pressure, and be sure there are no signs of a bleeding disorder, and give pain medication if needed to make him more comfortable.
