My dog has blood in her eye and an enlarged spleen. Is it serious?

The most common causes of hyphema are: * Injury or trauma to the eye or head * Retinal detachment or dysplasia * Hypertension - high blood pressure * Infection by certain parasites * Vasculitis - leaking blood vessels * Uveitis - inflammation of the front part of the eye * Cancer - uveal neoplasia and lymphoma (most common) * Glaucoma - increased eye pressure Some of these things may be life threatening. Therefore, its diagnosis and proper treatment is very important. I suggest you get Mara to your vet for an exam as soon as possible.

Hyphema (blood in the front chamber of the eye, in front of the iris and pupil) can be caused by a number of different things including trauma to the eye, an eye infection, retinal detachment, or a systemic problem such as a clotting disorder or even some types of cancer. This is always a concerning sign, and should be checked out by a veterinarian as soon as possible to find out what's going on and see what kind of treatment is needed.

I would have Benjy seen by a vet immediately. It's very concerning that his eyes are so sore that the are around them is bleeding. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with them should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Benjy needs to see a vet right away to diagnose what is causing the bleeding and his sore eyes so he can be treated. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. I would recommend taking Princess in for a veterinary exam. Eyes tend to heal quickly or get bad quickly. The one picture looks similar to a scleral hematoma, but the other picture looks like something is going on in the cornea. The cornea can be an emergency situation if there is an ulcer present. The veterinarian will do some diagnostics like an eye stain and prescribe appropriate medications for her. Eye injuries are painful, so she might need pain meds. Without doing an exam and looking at the eye, it is hard to say what is going on with Spots' eye. If he starts squinting, that is a sign of pain. It's possible there is a wound near the eye that is causing blood to accumulate in the eye. He also could have an ulcer, foreign material in the eye, or even inflammation of the 3rd eyelid. I would recommend you take Spots in to see your vet to see if he needs medication for his eye.

Many mammary tumours shrink temporarily after antibiotics as they often become infected in the centre, intact bitches can also develop mastitis which responds to antibiotics also. I would be concerned the bloodied discharge could be related to a womb infection and would recommend an ultrasound to rule this out. Bleeding around the eye is a warning flag for lymphoma but can occur secondary to many inflammatory conditions, referral to an ophthalmologist would be worthwhile in order to explore all avenues

A bloodied eye is never ok. You should take Maxi to your vet right away to check the eye and make sure it wasn't completely punctured. He likely had some trauma to the eye and hopefully it isn't too serious (depending on a complete eye exam) and can be treated right away before the eye gets infected or any permanent vision problems develop. I would not recommend placing anything in the eye until further exam by your vet.
