Why are my dog's eyes red and bloodshot after a grooming appointment?

Without seeing your dog in person we cannot say for certain, but it is possible that this could be a subconjunctival hemorrage. It can be a result of hypertension (elevated blood pressure), trauma, coagulopathy (blood clotting disorder). Usually this goes away on its own eventually, but if he is acting uncomfortable then a vet visit it best. They can test your dog's blood pressure, and be sure there are no signs of a bleeding disorder, and give pain medication if needed to make him more comfortable.

It is likely that some shampoo, air from the dryer, or even small bits of hair from trimming got in your dog's eye and caused irritation. You can try to rinse your dog's eye gently with saline solution (like you use for contacts). However, there could be a scratch on your dog's eye (the cornea) as well. If it doesn't look better in 24 hours, see your veterinarian for testing to see if there is a scratch on your dog's eye and get appropriate medication.

This means that some blood vessels in the white part of the eye (sclera) have ruptured. This can be secondary to trauma or too much pressure on the neck. I would contact the veterinary hospital that did the vaccines and ask them how well did she tolerate the visit or did she need lots of restraining. I would also question the place where she had her nails done. I would ask the same thing. It is possible that she suffered some trauma at the dog park but I'm skeptical about this. Looks like it's from restraining her for some procedures. Good luck

It might be that she has tried to free herself from the blanket by rubbing her head onto it. If after 1-2 hours you don' t see any improvement, then a vet check up is necessary as she might need some medications . I would also keep an eye on her breathing, her appetite and her toilet habits.

Hi there. Yes, pressure / strangulation at the neck can absolutely cause ruptured blood vessels and sclera hemorrhage. I would visit with the instructor about other methods of training or visit with your husband about the amount of force used. She is a very small dog and he might not realize how strong he is or how much force he can accidentally apply. I hope this was helpful. Take care !

This can sometimes happen during surgery, especially when the blood pressure changes or the eye gets irritated. I would not worry too much about it. If the redness has not disappeared by Thursday or Friday or if it is getting worse, , take your dog back to the vet for a recheck.

It sounds like your pet Daisy has a very common situation here which is a chemical burn or scratch on her cornea (surface of her eye). This is common after being groomed because shampoo or condition can get on the eye and isn't washed off properly or promptly. Poor girl. I would recommend taking her to your local vet as soon as you can to get her eye examined, tested and treated.
