My dog has a pus-filled bump. What is it and can it be treated without surgery?

That should be seen by your vet for exam and identification. As small as it is, it may be relatively simple to remove by your vet. Until you can get her seen, keep it lightly covered to keep it clean. Your vet will do a physical eam on her, possibly some labwork, like an impression smear, where they press a clean slide against the growth to be eamined under the microscope. Based on these results, your vet will be better able to tell you what is going on and how best to treat it.

It may be infected and he might need an antibiotic. The best thing would be to have your vet look at it again and prescribe an antibiotic. It could also just be removed so it doesn't swell and bother him again.

This presentation is due to a diffuse and quite severe pyoderma. A medicated shampoo, systemic antibiotics and a check up are absolutely needed to solve the problem. Pyoderma could be secondary to other diseases which cause immunosuppression. With that amount of discharge and that size hike I would worry about a cyst that ruptured or a wound from trauma (bite) that was trying to heal and can't because it is infected. It does need to be seen for medication or surgery if needed but not as an enegenxy. You can clean it with soap and water and keep neosporin on it until you can you get seen this week

They can then discuss the need for further treatments such as antibiotics. I recommend that you have Arlo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If an abscess was noted, further local therapy with drainage and antibiotics would be recommended. Hi you can clean the area gently with some cotton water and some saline or lukewarm boiled water. I think the lump could be a benign skin tumour that has now released ome keratin and cause inflammation. However, you should get a more precise diagnosis where the fine needle aspirate results are back. Make an appointment with your vet tomorrow, unless worried in the meantime. Hope this helps !
