My dog's poked growth has pus, vet's closed. What should I do?

That should be seen by your vet for exam and identification. As small as it is, it may be relatively simple to remove by your vet. Until you can get her seen, keep it lightly covered to keep it clean. Your vet will do a physical eam on her, possibly some labwork, like an impression smear, where they press a clean slide against the growth to be eamined under the microscope. Based on these results, your vet will be better able to tell you what is going on and how best to treat it.

Lesions like this can be a few things including a skin tumor, an ingrown hair, an infection or a blocked pore. You may monitor this lesion for the next week. Protect the area from scratching or rubbing with an elizabethan collar if needed and you may apply a warm (not hot) compress twice a day for 5 minutes. Check the lesion every day. It sounds like this wound that became a lump that is oozing fluid has become an abscess, or a pocket of infected fluid. Abscesses form when infection is trapped under the skin or within tissues such as fat or muscle. The bacteria will try to find a way out, so they can break through the skin and create a "draining tract" of pus. This should be addressed by your veterinarian, who will likely drain the abscess and open it up to allow continuous drainage. Antibiotics for at least 2 weeks will be needed, along with pain medications. Depending on the size of the wound/abscess, a bandage may be needed. I hope this is helpful! Ouchie. Poor guy. This appears to be a solitary pustule or even an abscess on his skin, which is often caused by a foreign body that was introduced underneath the skin. This can be viral related so it’s best to take him back to your vet on tomorrow to have this area clean and drained. He will also likely be placed on antibiotics to see if this resolves. If there is no resolve with antibiotics then a biopsy likely will be recommended to determine the underlying cause and course of treatment; however this will likely resolve with antibiotics. Waiting until tomorrow or Tuesday to have this looked at is perfectly acceptable, as long as he is still eating, drinking and has normal energy level. I hope that Rowdy’s skin lesions resolves soon! It could be that Jasmen had a cyst which has now ruptured. If there is pus, however, it means there is an infection and she needs to see the vet. The vet can confirm if it is a cyst, if there is an infection, and can prescribe antibiotics. Give the vet a call in the morning to make an appointment, and gently clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep her from licking at it, put an Ecollar on her if needed. Flushing it with peroxide once, just keep it out of his eyes, and keeping it clean for today is the best you can do. You can apply some Neosporin on it to help keep dirt out of it and make sure he doesn't scratch it. It will be fine until the morning for your appointment

If it is just the one spot, you can clean it with a diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution daily. A warm compress applied for 5-10 minutes a few times daily may bring it to a head quicker. If it spreads or worsens, Bella may need to be seen by your veterinarian for an exam and systemic antibiotics. Use an e-collar (cone), if necessary, to prevent licking.
