My dog pooped out an undigested Denamarin pill. Should I worry?

For optimal absorption, tablets should be given on an empty stomach, at least one hour before feeding, as the presence of food decreases the absorption of S-Adenosylmethionine. For those owners who have difficulty administering tablets to their pets, Denamarin tablet(s) may be disguised in a small bite of food. Pill pocket is fine too.

Denamarin isn't a treatment for liver disease, it is a potent antioxidant that can help limit further damage as the liver heals. Missing one dose won't hurt. It is best given on an empty stomach, but it can make some pets nauseous. In that case, you can give it with a tablespoon of wet food or a piece of meat or cheese.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I think it is a coincident that a part of her stool looked like a kibble. I cannot imagine that a whole kibble went through her gastrointestinal tract without being digested. Please, keep an eye on her stools and if you see more of potentially undigested food, Chloe may need a blood test to check her pancreas function.

It does need to be given a hour before a meal but it is ok to give it in a small piece of food (hot dog, cheese, etc); it just should not be given with a full meal. While the Denamarin should not be given with food per se, you could give them with a bit of peanut butter or cheese just to make it more appetizing. Also, you could dip them in chicken broth or dog grade gravy, Good luck!

Shades of stool color can vary widely from day to day, hour to hour, or (as you experienced) within the same bowel movement. Typically, diet and supplements are the main sources of changes in stool color, so the supplement that you're using may be to blame. The color of the supplement or food are less to blame for the color change than the way some of the vitamins and minerals digest. Regardless, since Chispas is still eating and acting normally, there's no cause for concern. Shades of brown in stool are all normal. However, colors like black, red, or white stool are all signs that something is amiss. Based on what you've described, I don't think you need to be concerned in the slightest!

Hello, and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Unfortunately, Denamarin only comes in tablet form. You could try pill pockets, or potentially crush it and mix it with a bite of canned all-meat baby food. If that doesn't work, and you're really struggling to get the medication into him, I recommend reaching out to your vet. We understand that many cats are nearly impossible to get pills into! There are other liver support options, such as milk thistle, that can come in liquid form if you need a "plan B" option. It wouldn't be quite as good as Denamarin, but better than nothing!
