Will a pill pocket reduce Denamarin's effect on an empty stomach?

It does need to be given a hour before a meal but it is ok to give it in a small piece of food (hot dog, cheese, etc); it just should not be given with a full meal. That is definitely pretty strange. The one thing I can think of that might cause that is related to when you are giving the Denamarin. It is meant to be given at least two hours PRIOR TO a meal to allow for best absorption. If you are giving it sooner than that or with the meal, it is more likely to prevent it from absorbing appropriately. If this isn't the case, I would recommend discussing this with your internal medicine vet to see if he has an opinion on the matter. Hope this helps.

Denamarin isn't a treatment for liver disease, it is a potent antioxidant that can help limit further damage as the liver heals. Missing one dose won't hurt. It is best given on an empty stomach, but it can make some pets nauseous. In that case, you can give it with a tablespoon of wet food or a piece of meat or cheese.

You could try pill pockets, or potentially crush it and mix it with a bite of canned all-meat baby food. If that doesn't work, and you're really struggling to get the medication into him, I recommend reaching out to your vet. We understand that many cats are nearly impossible to get pills into! There are other liver support options, such as milk thistle, that can come in liquid form if you need a "plan B" option. It wouldn't be quite as good as Denamarin, but better than nothing! While the Denamarin should not be given with food per se, you could give them with a bit of peanut butter or cheese just to make it more appetizing. I'm so sorry to hear about Lusso. If she has a sensitive stomach, then I would try to give the Loxicam with a little food. Even a small amount of a treat or a bit of bread might be enough. If she generally does not have a problem with a sensitive stomach and Loxicam has never bothered her before, then you might be able to get away with giving it on an empty stomach, but I always recommend trying to get something into them around the same time as the medication to prevent other problems. If there is a particular time of day that she tends to eat better than others, you may also consider changing the time of day that you give the Loxicam, so it can be with some food. Good luck!
