My dog's poop has yellow, egg-like mucus. Should I be worried?

Hello. My dogs stool had yellow clumps of what looked almost like egg I'm assuming was mucus in it. Is this something to be concerned witj

I'm sorry to hear that Bullet is having trouble with his bowel movements. There are some reasons that he would have mucoid/yellow colored diarrhea. He could have dietary indiscretion causing gastroenteritis (eating something that didn't agree with him), intestinal parasites or something more systemic.

If your dog is not eating, acting lethargic and having diarrhea or anything else concerning, I would take him to your veterinarian to get a full check up.

If your dog is eating and doing well otherwise, you can try some supportive care at home such as a bland diet (boiled chicken and rice) and see if his stools become more normal. If so, you can continue the diet for 2-3 days and slowly transition him back to his normal food. If he does not get better, I recommend taking him to your veterinarian.

He might have eaten something spoiled that is causing this. withhold food for 12 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days.

After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food.

If his stools continue to look mucousy, take him to the vet to get treatment.

Occasional mucous in the stool is usually nothing to worry about and probably related to his diet but if it continues than he should be checked by a vet. He could have an infection or parasite and your vet can test a stool sample to help diagnose. You could add a probiotic, like Proviable or Fortiflora, to his diet and see if that helps.

Poor Charlie! I would feed him some plain boiled boneless skinless chicken and rice for a couple of days to help settle her tummy. This could be from eating something she shouldn't, parasites, or even a bacterial/viral infection. If she continues to have diarrhea, doesn't want to eat, lethargic, or starts to vomit I would have your vet take a look at her. Your vet will be able to determine the cause and start her on the proper treatment plan to help her feel better. I hope this helps!

So you can just wait it out, as the diarrhea seems to be resolving now, and with only two episodes of vomiting it may not be anything serious. Or, you can go to the vet and get probiotics, antibiotics, and anti-nausea medication which will make him feel better much more quickly, and also give you the piece of mind that nothing more serious is going on than an upset stomach.

Why is my dog's poop yellow, soft, and has mucus after diarrhea?

This sounds like at this point Billy should really see your vet to have his stool checked for parasitse. Not all preventatives will cover all types of worms that pets can get, so it is best to have this checked. Most preventatives will prevent only 2-3 potentialy worms that pets can get. Until you can get Billy in to be seen by your vet it is best to offer him 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) to help solidify his stools and also a probiotic (Culturelle over the counter wokrs well) daily to help stabilize the stools. Most pets with loose stool like this will need a short course of antibiotics, so it is best to get him seen by your vet on Monday if the stool is still abnormal. My dog has yellow mucus diarrhea for days and won't eat. What to do?

Poor guy. 4 days of loose stool despite a bland diet, indicates that there is something else going on underlying than just an upset stomach. Due to his age, I would suspect that either an intestinal parasite or a bacterial infection is causing this. He certainly needs to see a vet at this point to have his stool tested first, then get him treated based on what is found. I would recommend continuing the boiled chicken and rice and add in a probiotic (Culturelle over the counter works well as well as Fortiflora online). I hope that Hank is able to resolve his diarrhea soon! Best of luck and take care.

Why are there yellow dots in my dog's poop? Should I be concerned?

The good news is that these yellow dots don't look like any intestinal parasite that's visible with the naked eye. My best guess is that your dog recently ate something relatively fibrous, like plant material, rice, or another vegetable that passed through the stool reasonably unchanged. As long as your dog isn't experiencing any changes in their appetite or energy level, or any vomiting, then I don't see any cause for concern. If this continues, you can always ask your vet to submit a stool sample to a reference lab for further evaluation.

My dog has yellow slimy poop. What causes it and what should I do?

This sounds like diarrhea. In dogs, diarrhea can be caused by a GI illness, eating something rotten, or a change in diet to name a few things. I can give you a home remedy for Leah to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.
