Why is my dog's poop yellow, soft, and has mucus after diarrhea?

Poor guy. 4 days of loose stool despite a bland diet, indicates that there is something else going on underlying than just an upset stomach. Due to his age, I would suspect that either an intestinal parasite or a bacterial infection is causing this. He certainly needs to see a vet at this point to have his stool tested first, then get him treated based on what is found. I would recommend continuing the boiled chicken and rice and add in a probiotic (Culturelle over the counter works well as well as Fortiflora online). I would recommend a vet check up for Duke. He could have intestinal parasites such as hookworms, coccidia or giardia. None of these can be seen in the stool. The vet will likely get a stool sample to check for parasites or eggs under the microscope. Good luck and hope he's better soon.

I'm sorry to hear that Bullet is having trouble with his bowel movements. There are some reasons that he would have mucoid/yellow colored diarrhea. He could have dietary indiscretion causing gastroenteritis (eating something that didn't agree with him), intestinal parasites or something more systemic. If your dog is not eating, acting lethargic and having diarrhea or anything else concerning, I would take him to your veterinarian to get a full check up. If your dog is eating and doing well otherwise, you can try some supportive care at home such as a bland diet (boiled chicken and rice) and see if his stools become more normal. If so, you can continue the diet for 2-3 days and slowly transition him back to his normal food. If he does not get better, I recommend taking him to your veterinarian.

This is very concerning as it appears to contain blood, mucus and possibly bowel lining. I recommend an oral worm medication, a specialist intestinal or hydrolyzed diet for 6 weeks and a probiotic/fiber supplement such as fortiflora to rebalance the bowel and rule out any parasitic causes. A full health check, blood tests and possibly ultrasound/xray if not responding or any weight loss, vomiting or weakness is noted

Hello, I do not believe the pyrantel from 6 days ago would have any affect on today. Vomiting and diarrhea in a puppy could be commonly caused by infectious disease, such as parvovirus, or an intestinal obstruction, such as a swallowed toy stuck in the intestines. It would be helpful to know if Billy has had all of his vaccinations. I'd recommend an appointment with your vet. They can guide you best after a physical exam. If Billy becomes lethargic or uninterested in food, that would be a sign to get him to a veterinarian as soon as possible. I hope this helps. Unfortunately we have. I would highly recommend placing Echo on probiotics (i.e. Advita, Fortiflora, or Proviable) for roughly 2-4 weeks, adding 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the Pie filling) in his food daily, Purina EN Gastrointestinal food can be tried, and then consider having the stool rechecked through your veterinarian. Oftentimes if a pet has many worms they need multiple dewormings to get things to return to normal. I would try those suggestions first and see how Echo responds. If the stools still have not resolved after 2-4 weeks, then consider treating Echo with a long term antibiotic (i.e. Tylan powder) to treat for suspected inflammatory bowel disease. Hi there! Although dogs can get diarrhea from worms, there are other reasons why, including bacterial infections, or even dietary indiscretion (eating something out of the ordinary that they shouldn't), that can cause it. From the description of the mucous, it could very well be colitis - or inflammation of the colon or large bowel. Also, fleas carry tapeworms, so sometimes the over the counter de-wormers don't take care of those. You can try a fast of 12 hours of no food, and very little water. After that period of time, 1/3-1/2 of their normal portion of food in the form of boiled or steamed lean protein such as chicken breast or ground turkey (no sauce or seasoninng) can be introduced. If the diarrhea seems like it's improving, or it stops, every 12 hours you can increase the portion little by little until it's back to the normal portion of food. If the diarrhea is not improving, both dogs should be evaluated by their veterinarian. It is important to make sure that the dogs are not getting too dehydrated from the diarrhea (as even though they may be drinking, they lose way more fluid than they can take in sometimes with diarrhea). The veterinarian can also give them some medications to help with the diarrhea, like, for example, some antibiotics to help re-balance the bacterial populations in the gut. At any time, if vomiting starts in addition to the diarrhea, I always advise to have the pet(s) evaluated immediately, because this can indicate an intestinal blockage, or a severe gastrointestinal infection or diffuse inflammation. All of those issues need to be addressed immediately. If the diarrhea does improve with the bland diet, I always advise to feed it until there is 48-72 hours of normal, solid stools. Then, you can transition the dogs back to their normal diet, gradually, over the course of 5-7 days (as switching too quickly can actually cause diarrhea).
