My dog's third eyelids are red/pink and brown. Is this normal?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Husky | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 23 days old | 20 lbs

Can dogs third eyelid be genetically different colors? One is red/pink and one is brown. The red/pink had prior conjunctivitis. Resolved with atb, had another dose because we thought the pink third eyelid may be infected. Tried Benadryl and no difference to the eyelid. No scratch and eye pressure is good. No pain or discomfort. no inflammation. Can’t afford to take her to an eye doctor

Yes it can and from your description it seems that there is no problem at all affecting Bleu third eyelids or conjunctiva. I would not be worried at all.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Some color variation may be just a normal pigmentation change but that depends on how it actually looks like. I would recommend you show this to your veterinarian at the time of her next check up. Best of luck!
