My pet has pink eye. What's the best treatment and are home remedies safe?

1. Conjunctivitis (pink eye) is very easily treated with medications from the vet
2. I'm not sure if you are asking if there should be discharge from the eye after treatment finishes or if discharge can occur while treating. It would be helpful if you posted again with more clarification so I or another expert can help you.
3. No home remedies for pink eye.
4. Have him seen by a vet. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with them should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss.

Poor Fran! I'm sorry to hear that she's having a problem with her eye. Dogs can definitely get eye infections that are similar to pinkeye in humans, so it's very possible that this is the problem. It's also possible that she may have a corneal scratch or ulcer causing these symptoms.

You will only be able to get a basic eye flush at Petco, which unfortunately will not do anything to treat the problem - she will need prescription antibiotic drops from your vet to get rid of the infection, so I would recommend taking her in for an exam today if you can. Your veterinarian can examine the eye and use a special stain if needed to help diagnose the problem, and will get her started on appropriate medication to treat it depending on what is found.

The other eye has brown pigment around it instead of pink. If the whites of the globe of her eyes are pink you can try rinsing the eyes with saline solution- you may have gotten hair in them. If they continue to stay pink or you notice her scratching I would see an emergency vet to look for a scratch. Delaying treatment could make things worse and be more costly to treat. Is human pink eye medicine safe for my cat's conjunctivitis?

I'm sorry that Kenny has conjunctivitis! Unfortunately, I would not recommend using these drops in Kenny's eye - polymyxin is not recommended for use in cats, as it can cause a severe reaction in some cases. It's also important to determine what is causing Kenny's eye problem, since conjunctivitis can be caused by an eye infection, an upper respiratory viral or bacterial infection, or an injury to the cornea such as a scratch or ulcer - treatment recommendations would be different depending on the underlying problem. Because of this, I would recommend taking Kenny to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to. He/she can take a look at the eye and do some simple testing if needed to help diagnose the problem, and will prescribe a safe and effective eye drop to treat it.

My dog has an eye problem. What eye care or treatment is best?

Hi, eye conditions are impossible to give advice on over the forum. To start with they are extremely painful, just imagine how we feel when we get a tiny little thing into our eye, or even conjunctivitis. Second the price to pay if you get the wrong medication is not only prolonged suffering but also potential eye/sight loss. It could be that Potchi has a problem with her eye lids rubbing on the surface of the eye for example.. I would recommend to bring her in to see a vet for a consultation so that she is prescribed the best treatment for it. Hope this makes sense !

I don’t see any depigmentation that would be suggestive of vitiligo in your picture. I do see a red third eyelid, which could be a sign of pinkeye (infectious conjunctivitis) or a number of other eye diseases. It’s impossible to determine a diagnosis based on a picture alone, so I’d recommend making an appointment to see your veterinarian.

My dog's pink eye keeps coming back after vet drops. What to do?

Poor Alfie! You are right to try and keep him from scratching, as this can lead to painful scratches on the cornea. Use an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent him from scratching his eye. Please have Alfie seen by a vet if the conjunctivitis is recurring, and do not apply anything to the eye yourself, as adding anything else (even salt water, unless it is an ophthalmic saline solution appropriate for dogs) can irritate the eye further and lead to damage to the tissue. My pet's eyes are still sticky after conjunctivitis. Should I worry?

Without knowing what the medication that was used and not knowing what the diagnosis was from your previous vet, it is difficult to guide you in the right direction. However, if the eyes were treated with an antibiotic and cleared up but are still accumulating thick material, I would recheck with the veterinarian and have the eyes checked for dry eye to see if this is the primary problem. Life long medication is needed if the eyes are diagnosed with dry eye. I hope this helps! Optixcare is an eye ointment that is over the counter that can help with dry eye so if you are unable to get to your vet, you can start with this ointment to see if it makes a difference. Hi, and thanks for your question. That is probably due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. A buster collar would be essential to avoid any self inflicted damage.
