My dog's pink eye keeps coming back after vet drops. What to do?

Bleu has such pretty eyes!! I would recommend a recheck with your vet now that some of the swelling and redness has resolved. There may be something additional going on that needs to be addressed, or perhaps she needs to receive a different type of eye drops. Be sure and ask your veterinarian to take a close look at Bleu’s eyelids-sometimes, especially in young growing dogs, the lower (and occasionally upper) eyelid can roll onwards and irritate the surface of the eye-This is called entropion and can require surgery to correct. I hope you are able to get Bleu’s eye redness resolved soon!

Infectious conjunctivitis is not common in dogs and unless she is going to doggie day care or is in contact with many dogs it is unlikely that she has contracted an infection twice. More likely would be allergic conjunctivitis or another eye disease like anterior uveitis. I would recommend rechecking with your veterinarian first. If they see anything unusual they may recommend referral to an ophthalmologist.

However, there are some other diseases that really need a very thorough evaluation of the eye to diagnose. I think that if he has not improved on the current therapy, it may be a good idea to check in with your veterinarian. If they are concerned based on their knowledge of his case, they could consider having you consult with a veterinary ophthalmologist. Try to prevent him from rubbing the eye. This can make things worse or cause additional injury to the eye. If necessary an e-collar (lamp shade collar, cone) can be used. Many pet stores and feed stores sell these if Petey's vet is closed on Sunday.

There are two things you need to do: 1) put on a cone to prevent Jasper from doing more damage to the eye 2) take Jasper back to the vet for a recheck. Bring the Isathal with you so the vet can determine whether you have enough for the treatment. Do not put the Isathal on until your vet has rechecked the eye. Eye drops/ointments need to be given for at least 7 days and then the vet should resee the dog in order to make sure the treatment was successful.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Finn! When it comes to eyes it is best to have the pet seen as soon as possible. I do not recommend starting any medications without an exam first. The only thin I recommend you do is to out an E-collar on to prevent Finn from rubbing his eye and causing further harm. You can warm compress the eye twice daily. Be sure you can tolerate the temperature first before putting it on his eye. I hope this helps and I wish Finn the very best!

Yes, definitely take Lexi into the vet. I would be concerned she could scratched her cornea, which would lead to much large problems.
