Is my pet's red eye pink eye? How long does it take to recover?

Although a picture would help to determine underlying cause of it more specifically, that is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to an allergy or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The pictures of Ziggy's eyes are hard to say for sure, but it appears what you are seeing is his third eyelid. It can become visible for a number of reasons, the most common of which in a dog his age include lymphoid hyperplasia (a condition that is self-limiting and rarely requires intervention), ocular foreign body which is usually irritating and makes them rub at it and squint, and a local allergic reaction to something in his environment. Keep watch on this, and if it does start bothering him, gets larger, or fails to subside within a week or two, please have him examined by a veterinarian. Hope this helps!

Infectious conjunctivitis is not common in dogs and unless she is going to doggie day care or is in contact with many dogs it is unlikely that she has contracted an infection twice. More likely would be allergic conjunctivitis or another eye disease like anterior uveitis. I would recommend rechecking with your veterinarian first. If they see anything unusual they may recommend referral to an ophthalmologist.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If you are talking about the skin around her eye, I wouldn’t be worried. It looks like her normal skin coloring. The other eye has brown pigment around it instead of pink. If the whites of the globe of her eyes are pink you can try rinsing the eyes with saline solution- you may have gotten hair in them. If they continue to stay pink or you notice her scratching I would see an emergency vet to look for a scratch. Delaying treatment could make things worse and be more costly to treat. Hello, The pictures show a possible cherry eye which is a prolapsed third eyelid. This is a condition that can be surgically corrected. I would advise you to follow up with your primary care veterinarian to discuss treatment options as soon as possible. If Pepper is scratching the eye, I would advise you to apply an E-collar to prevent trauma to the cornea.

Young kittens often get conjunctivitis. It's not pink eye (meaning it's not contagious to you), but it may require medication from your veterinarian for clinical signs to resolve. It does not sound like an emergency, but I would schedule an appointment with your veterinarian within the next several days if clinical signs have not resolved or certainly if they worsen.

Poor girl. It would help if you posted a picture here, but it does sound like Ayumi has possible conjunctivitis. If the discharge is yellow or green, then there is an infection that should be checked by your vet. The vet needs to do an eye stain to check for any ulcers/scratches on the eye surface, and then prescribe eye ointment/drops to allow this to heal. It is possible that blowing in her face could have inadvertently caused dust or debris to go into her eye and cause irritation or there could be another cause altogether. Eye problems in dogs can't be treated with anything over the counter unfortunately, so its best to get her seen by your vet soon for treatment.
