My dog pees less on his pad. Should I worry about his health?

Hello. I am so sorry for your worries with Romeo. Urine volume can absolutely vary during the day(s). What usually concerns us is if there is an increase in water intake & also increased urinations which could be an indication of some underlying condition. It is impossible to make any conclusion based on your picture, but I see nothing that overly concerns me. If he is acting & eating normal, there is probably no immediate concern right now, but as a pet ages, things can start to happen. If it has been a while since Romeo has seen a veterinarian, it may be time for a good wellness checkup. This would include blood work & a urinalysis. Hi, if he is eating a bit less I would not worry but just monitor him closely. Check his feaces and urine, and that he is playful as useful. I would not change his diet, but give him a few days to see if he goes back to his normal appetite. Hope this helps !

I would not get too worried over two episodes. I recommend watching his water intake and urination over the next week or so. If you notice that both remain elevated he should get checked out by a veterinarian as it could be signs of early diseases like kidney issues and Cushing's disease. Also monitor him for any blood in his urine, dribbling, or straining to urinate as it could indicate an infection or even stones.

Hi there! If Penny's lab work has been normal and she's not having any other symptoms of a problem, this may be perfectly normal for her. There are some dogs who only need to urinate 1-2 times per day (one of my current dogs is like this, in fact!) - so although I would say the average dog tends to pee more often than this, there's definitely some individual variation. If she's just now only 10-11 months old, she may be peeing less often now because her bladder control has gotten better, and her kidneys are better able to concentrate urine than when she was younger - which translates to less frequent peeing. So if she seems 100% fine otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Make sure she gets opportunities to pee at least 3-4 times a day, but if she doesn't need to go, that's okay.

It could be a normal change related to his maturing and/or changes in drinking habits. Go ahead and submit the urine sample to your vet to be safe but my guess is that nothing will come up. If you do see any other signs, I’d definitely take that more seriously and recommend an exam and urine test at that time. Those signs may include: increased frequency, increases amounts of urine/increased drinking, blood tinged urine, straining to urinate, accidents in the house, etc. Best wishes to you and Bruno Rider!

If she is acting fine otherwise the it is probably just normal for her. Continue to monitor her and have her examined by a vet if her signs persist or worsen. Your vet can check a urine sample to see if there is a problem.

If you think Sophie is uncomfortable and in pain, I would take her in to be examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. If she is not uncomfortable, as you say, then she is probably just fine. Sometimes the frequency at which dogs go to the bathroom changes based on hydration and behavioral changes (not wanting to go outside much, etc.). I would keep an eye on her and if she begins to develop any symptoms such as needing to go more frequent, straining to urinate, blood in urine, etc. then I would take her in to be seen by a veterinarian.
