My dog pees frequently and scoots. Is it a UTI or anal glands?

This is very likely due to a urinary tract infection, you will need to take her to the vet ASAP in order to get it checked, the vet will perform a urine analysis, if the test comes back positive your vet will prescribe a course of antibiotics for your dog which should solve the problem in a very short time.

The straining to urinate along with the increased thirst may indeed indicate a developing UTI. You would need to have Zo physically examined by your veterinarian for confirmation. A sterile urine sample should be collected and submitted for urinalysis and urine culture/sensitivity. This may identify the organism responsible as well as the best antibiotic to use in treatment. Your vet may recommend abdominal x-rays or ultrasound to rule out kidney or bladder stones. Given current events, you may need to drop her off at the clinic then wait for the doctor to call you to discuss exam findings and treatment options.

When dogs scoot it’s often a sign that their anal sacs are full or infected. These are like the scent glands of a skunk. Usually they are emptied when the dog goes to the bathroom. If they fill up they cause itching and scooting. I recommend you take your dog in and have your veterinarian express her anal sacs. They can then prescribe medication to control the itching if needed. Also spayed female dogs can get low hormone levels causing urine leakage. There is daily medication you can give to control this. Hello. It is very possible that Bijou has a UTI, but she may also have a case of vaginitis. The UTI may require antibiotics, but the vaginitis may be treatable with a topical cream. Your puppy may have a urinary tract infection. Since puppies can deteriorate very quickly (they heal quickly as well), I suggest you make an appointment with your veterinarian. He may need to be prescribed antibiotics and pain medicine.

Hypothyroidism can lead to drinking and peeing more frequently, as well as a higher likelihood to have a urinary tract infection, and can also lead to neurological disorders. Likely the peeing inappropriately and peeing when nothing is coming out is a problem associated with her hypothyroidism and not associated with having her anal glands expressed. Anal glands and the bladder are not anatomically related, and these would not be associated with one another. I do recommend you bring her in to have her urine checked though.
